Hello everyone!

I just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you all have a wonderful time tonight whether you're going out or just having a lazy night in like me!

I've thoroughly enjoyed getting into blogging this year, I set up this blog in August 2012 but that year had a grand total of 2 posts. This year has 184! I'm so proud of how far MysteriousNeonLights has come this year even though it's still a teeny tiny blog, I'm thankful to everyone who follows me and reads my posts and I really hope that my posts will continue to inform and entertain you throughout 2014.

So that's all from me this year, see you in January!
Drink responsibly guys!!
All the best for 2014,

What I got for Christmas 2013 | Boyfriend edition!

Hello Everyone!

You may or may not have seen the parent edition of his post yet, I'm not too sure which way round I'm going to publish them yet. However, in this one I'll be showing you what my boyfriend Tom bought me for Christmas! I wanted to get these posts up earlier but I haven't had the chance to sit down at the laptop properly since Christmas Day.

Some of the presents I picked myself because he wasn't sure what to buy for me but he also picked up some other bits and pieces which I love too. I'm so grateful for everything, I feel like a very lucky person! Hope you enjoy looking through a few pics :)

How cool is this stocking? I love it! I'll leave it hooked somewhere in my room all year. Inside it, Tom put lots of little bits and pieces.

Including sweets, chocolate (my favourite Malteaser chocolate bars!), a Soap & Glory Hand Food set,  Yankee Candle in Black Cherry and a Boots gift card. I'll show you what I've bought with that later!

This is a gift which I picked myself, I absolutely love this perfume. It's one of them more sophisticated scents but not old fashioned if you get me? Definitely not an everyday perfume but gorgeous for a special occasion or night out!

I was totally surprised by this present. Tom had been hinting that he was getting my something special but I wasn't really sure what to expect. I think this is such a beautiful locket. I don't have a picture in it yet, I need to wait for a decent one. But I really love it. I was going to keep it on but the chain is so delicate and I don't want to snap it so I don't sleep or shower with it on, I can't wait to get a picture for it!

I've been looking for one of these jumbo tongue curlers for ages so you can imagine my excitement when I received this! I haven't used this yet but I'm excited to give it a go, I'm forever looking for the tool that can give my look look of blow dried curls without actually blow drying them...

Last but not least, this is what I bought with my Boots voucher! Tom was originally going to buy me the Wondervision palette for Christmas but it was out of stock online and the Boots that's most near to us doesn't stock Smashbox so he bought the voucher for me to buy it after Christmas.

On Boxing Day though the palette had been reduced to £32.99 from £50! I was a many happy because I felt bad spending the voucher on just one thing but now I have a little bit left on it to buy something else! Very happy!

So that's everything! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and please please don't think I'm showing off or anything of the sort, I love reading these kind of posts so I wanted to write my own.

Hope you're all having a fantastic end to 2013!
Drink responsibly on NYE!

See you in the New Year if not before,

What I got for Christmas 2013 | Parent edition!

Hello Everyone!

I've seen so many 'What I got for Christmas' posts and thoroughly enjoyed reading them. I don't know why some people take a huge dislike to them, just look at them in that same way you would a haul post. Last year, I didn't write a post like this and kind of regretted it so this year, I'm going for it!

These are the gifts I received from my parents. I'm so grateful for absolutely everything, they bought me  lovely gifts, a lot of them with my Berlin trip in mind. Everything was a total surprise as I hadn't asked for anything, I never write a list or anything like that, I thoroughly enjoy the surprise.

I took individual pictures which I'm kind of regretting, I should have put some items together but hey ho, I've taken them now! They took ages to take too so you'll probably see me losing the light towards the end. Apologies for the poor photography.

Anyway, hope you enjoy looking at a few pics, I won't write about everything because the pictures are pretty self explanatory and it could get a little tedious haha, enjoy!

Shades: Lustering, Fusion Pink, Lady Bug.

My first ever Christmas jumper!

I'll probably take this dress to Berlin to wear on my birthday!

Giraffes are my favourite animal and coffee is my joint top favourite drink (along with vodka).

The fluffiest and warmest dressing gown ever...

... paired with the fuzziest and softest PJs ever: ultimate comfort!

A white board! I searched IKEA high and low for a white board but couldn't find one. Now I have one! I'm feeling organised haha. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen where I've put it and what it looks like!

Thank you for reading!
Hope you're all having a wonderful last few days of 2013.

Don't forget to leave me a link to your Christmas posts!

Tom's Christmas Presents!

Hello everyone!

As promised, I thought I'd show you the presents I bought my boyfriend Tom for Christmas! I did write a 'stocking stuffer' post in which I mentioned a few bits and pieces but seeing as though Tom sometimes reads my blog, I couldn't mention everything!

So now that Christmas Day has been and gone I can happily show you what Father Christmas brought Tom!

First, I bought this present months ago! I started my Christmas shopping early this year. Tom wanted some new after shave but I wasn't sure which one. When browsing Boots I really loved the scent of this Amen by Thierry Mugler, I'm a huge fan of the Angel for women and this one is like a more masculine version of that, it's kind of deep and spicy, I love it and so does Tom!

Similarly, I picked up this Old Spice gift set. I wasn't sure what it was going to be like but it actually smells really nice. It's obviously spicy hence the name and I think tom likes it haha. He was a bit dubious at first because I think it's a little old fashioned but who cares if it smells nice eh?

These are the converse I bought for him, he knew he was getting these so it wasn't a surprise but he's very pleased with them and he 'can't wait to get them dirty' which is annoying. I'd prefer him to keep them clean! Also, they're double tongued, one is white and the other is blue which looks really cool!

For Berlin, I bought him this Urban Knit hat and scarf set. Personally, I think it looks really nice, I love the bobble hat and I think it suits him but I don't think Tom's too keen haha. He said he'll wear them in Berlin but not in England the chicken! I'll have to wear it myself lol.

Lastly, I bought him this jumper. I bought this a while ago too and I kept forgetting that I had it! It's from  Burton and it's a little different to what he usually wears as he's not big on wearing black things but it looks really nice on and he's been wearing it so it must be a winner!

I also put together a stocking for him with some sweets and bits for his car in it which I showed you in my Stocking Stuffers post a while back.

I'm really pleased with what I bought for Tom this year, I think he liked everything! Last year I bought him lots of little things as opposed to this year where I bought less but better things. That was kind of what I was aiming for this year, quality not quantity so I'm happy that worked out!

Hope you're enjoying these random days between Christmas and New Year that no one really knows what to do with!

Thanks for reading!

A Boots beauty haul!

Hello everyone!

I've been naughty again. I ventured in to Boots and well, this happened.

I bought some things. This happened before Christmas too so I was being extra naughty. I picked up things I'd had my eye on for a while though it wasn't totally spontaneous!

I never buy anything from Revlon, it's not really a brand I'm familiar with and it's definitely one of the pricier drugstore brands. However, I needed a new primer and Smashbox's photofinish primer was the one I was going to buy but I just couldn't part with the money (it's currently on offer for £12.50 though so I might buy it anyway) but I read that the Revlon Photoready was a great primer and decided to go with that.

It was pretty pricy to be honest but Revlon had a 2 for 3 offer on along with a free nail polish when you bought 3 items so I think I got a pretty good deal. If I decide to repurchase it I'll probably see if I can buy it cheaper online.

I've been using it everyday since I bought it over a week ago and I'm really happy with it. I'll write a review soon but so far so good!

Price: £11.99
REVLON PHOTOREADY PRIMER

Next from Revlon, I bought a new lip butter. I already have an orange one but I rarely ever wear it and it doesn't even show up orange, it's basically clear! I think we can file that one away in the 'YouTube made me buy it' draw.

This 'Raspberry Pie' colour is actually really really nice. It shows up with full colour, it feels comfortable and moisturising on my skin and it also lasts a decent amount of time. I've been wearing it pretty much every day over Christmas and will continue to wear it throughout the winter months! I would definitely agree with those who say that the darker shades are better quality than the paler shades. This one has really made me want to buy more! Am I soon to be one of them people with the full collection of lip butters...?

Price: £7.99
(Couldn't find a link to this shade as the Boots website was down whilst writing this post!)

Whilst at the Revlon section in Boots, this was the first things that caught my eye. I new it had to be mine!

I'm not even an avid wearer of lipgloss but this is just so beautiful. It's a Colourburst lipgloss, not something I'm familiar with in all honesty and it's in the shade 'Adorned'. I absolutely love the colour of this, it's a blue toned hot pink with iridescent sparkles throughout it which I've tried to show you in the picture below. Also, I may be mistaken but I'm sure that I've seen something very similar to this buy Illamasqua and this Revlon version is a fraction of the price.

I would definitely agree with the 'colourburst' claim, it shows up as it appears in the tube which I love. Hate nothing more than applying a pretty colour on only to discover it shows up translucent!

It's quite thick and a little sticky (lol) but I can put up with it as it's so beautiful. On a windy day though I'd advide you up tie your hair up because hair sticking to lipgloss can be tres annoying.

Also, I discovered today that this lipgloss on top of the 'raspberry pie' lip butter is a really lovely combination!

Price: £7.99

Top: Colourburst. Bottom: Lip Butter 'Raspberry Pie'.

Another item I picked up is this Maybelline Color Show Brocades nail polish in 'Knitted Gold'. There was only one left on the shelf and I wanted it so much. I was beyond pleased when I found it! It's just a really pretty wintery colour. It's gold with pieces of pink glitter running through it. It can be used on it's own or as a top coat. I found that it only took two coats for it to cover my nails completely. I'll be writing a review on this very soon (may possibly be the next post you read from me) as I've been wearing it over Christmas.

Price: £3.99

Lastly, this is the free nail polish I received from Revlon for buying 3 items. I can't find a shade name on it so I don't think it's from their regular line. I haven't actually used it yet but I think it's make a really nice sparkly top coat!

Hope you enjoyed reading this post!
I have so many posts to write! Absolute list forming haha. I'm resisting from using some of my Christmas presents until I've taken some good pictures. Life of a blogger!

Did you all have a wonderful Christmas? I hope you did!

See you next time,
Leanne x

P.S. If anyone's interested in buying the Smashbox Wondervision palette, get yourself to Boots asap as it's down from £50 to £32! You'll be seeing it on my blog soon... I couldn't resist!

P.P.S. I'm off to watch the second Hunger Games soon with my sister and Tom after watching the first one on Christmas Day! I'm looking forward to it, I really enjoyed the first one!

A bad experience with the L'Oreal Preference hair dye.

Hello Everyone!

I'll be talking about a few different hair products in this post. I'll start off by saying that my views aren't going to be particularly positive. I'm not going to lie, I haven't had the best experience with these items so I thought I'd let you all know my story.

I intended to be writing a review on only the L'Oreal Preference hair dye in Shade 1, but that's not turned out to be the case, I'll also be talking about the Jerome Russell B Blonde High Lift powder bleach kit and also the Clairol Nice 'n Easy in the shade light brown.

Can you see where we're going with this yet?

I picked this L'Oreal blonde kit for my mum, I didn't use these items on my own hair. I'd heard really good reviews on it, seen the adverts on TV and having never dyed hair myself at home before, other than when I had purple ends, I didn't really know where to start. This just looked like a good all-rounder.

I took the above picture when I first bought the kit thinking I'd just be reviewing the one thing and it'd all go smoothly. I was so wrong. But that's what you receive in the kit regardless. One thing I do like about the dye kits is that they come with a conditioner to apply afterwards which I didn't expect.

Anyway, I mixed the different solutions together, followed the instructions, sectioned the hair and started applying it. Left it for 40 minutes and washed it off.

It was bright orange.

I've never been so horrified in my life. Aside from when the hair dresser turned my hair green. To be fair, my mum didn't freak out or anything so she needs applauding for that. After the orange hair I went and bought another of the same kit and put it on again. Thinking back now, I suppose this was a stupid thing to do, as the orange parts went even more orange and the blonde bits went white. It was really bad. But we dried it off hoping that would made the orange look paler and it did but it was still plainly obvious. My poor mother had to go to work the next day with her hair like this. Bear in mind that the underneath of her hair was still brown as she only wanted the top half lifting. A certain McFly song springs to mind here...

The next day, we went back to morrisons and bought this bleach kit which a friend recommended. If I was ever going to but blonde through someone's hair again (unlikely) I'd definitely just go straight for the bleach, you're far less likely to mess it up if you use it correctly and keep your eye on it.

You have to buy the box which comes with 3 powder sachets and the bottle of peroxide separately. One bottle to one sachet ratio. It's a good thing I'm kind of on the ball because if you were completely clueless you'd probably just pick up the box.

We went home and applied this to all the orange and we were advised to leave this on for 40 minutes. When it had been washed off, it was bright white. The below picture shows what it looked like dry.

It looked really ridiculous, she could have lit up the street like a lamp post, it was that bright. It looked better what it was orange if I'm being honest. The only thing I can suggest that made it go so bright was the time we left it on. Only, if we hadn't left it on that long it would have still been orange. It was a vicious circle.

In a last attempt before going to the hair dressers (try getting an appointment this time of year for something so time consuming... you'd be lucky) I picked up this 'light brown' dye. They were on 2 for £10. I took the above picture to show mum as she wouldn't go to Morrisons with me hahaha.

I applied this to all of her hair, even the underneath which I hadn't touched and left it on for about 30 minutes. It washed off and the colour had totally masked the bright blonde and orange. The colour would have probably gone darker had it not been put on top of something so light but the colour it turned out is actually really nice.

So, moral of the story: don't dye your hair with a box dye if you don't know what you're really doing (particularly the roots). Use bleach over dye if you want blonde, it'll probably turn out better. Just go to the hairdressers because if it turns out wrong, it'll cost you just as much to correct it!

Have you ever had a hair disaster?

Thanks for reading,
Leanne x

P.S. I even tweeted L'Oreal about the problem and they had the cheek to not reply! That's the whole reason for Twitter and social networking! Very annoying!
