Makeup of the Day and OOTD!

Hello everyone!

Just a quick one, I thought I'd show you the makeup I wore a few days ago as I used a few different products and decided to go with no lipstick! Unheard of! I added a little OOTD as well, nothing overly interesting, just a casual day. Enjoy!

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer
Boots No.7 Stay Perfect Foundation in the shade Calico
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1
Collection Lasting Perfection Powder in shade 1
ILAH Brow Powder in Brown
L'Oreal SuperLiner in Black
Maybelline Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in Black
Stila Self-Adjusting Custom Colour Blush in Pink
Chapstick Lip Balm

I've been really enjoying the no lipstick look recently which is strange for me as I usually wear such bold colours. I was getting fed up with checking on my lipstick all day so I decided to have a day off and just wear a Chapstick.

I also gave the Collection Lasting Perfection Powder a go on my face as a replacement for my Rimmel Stay Matte. I'm not too sure about it yet, it seems to get shiny slightly quicker but having only tried it once I think it needs a few more chances before I write a review!

My easy, go-to get up these days!

Leggings - H&M
Jumper - River Island
Boots -  Boohoo.com
Coat - River Island
Snood - River Island
Gloves - Primark

That's it! Sorry the OOTD wasn't very interesting, like I said it was a casual day and I mostly wanted to show the makeup anyway!

Hope you've all had a nice week so far!

Sophisticated Beige Sparkle!

Hello everyone!

Like I said in my last nail post, I needed a break from the dark wintery colours that have been on my nails since about September. So I decided to go for THIS turquoise sparkly look! This week, I was still feeling summery, so I went for some beige sparkle!

I'm really loving the bright mornings we're getting here in Manchester recently. The weather's decent until about dinner time then it turns grey and horrible but it's nice to wake up to the sun I suppose.

Anyway, for this look I used the Barry M Gelly Paint in Lychee. I don't reach for this colour so often as my hands are really pale so it tends to look silly. I did however add the Revlon top coat in Stunning (absolute favourite nail polish these days) over the top and it turned out nice and sparkly.

This is quite a sophisticated nail look in my opinion, it's very different from my usual black or red nails so I'll probably apply this again if I go to somewhere fancy!

I don't know what nail colour I'll go with next week, I might have to have a browse of the Boots shelves and pick up something new... Any recommendations?

Haul Time | Beauty, Fashion, Random!

Hello everyone!
Hope you're all okay.

I have a few bits and bobs to show you today, they're a bit miss matched, some things are beauty related, others are fashion and the rest are random! I have a feeling there will be another haul soon as I need a few new things for my room...

So in no particular order, let's get cracking!

First, an impulse purchase. I was in Boots and for once I wasn't in there looking at makeup but somehow I ended up buying this Stila blush.

I was waiting for my Mum and wandered over to the Stila counter and started swatching a few things then I found this! It's the Self Adjusting Custom Colour blush in Pink and I can say nothing other than I was smitten and it had to be mine. It's the brightest, most beautiful blush ever. It's so pigmented and I just loved it, so I bought it. I've been wearing it almost every day since it came home with me and I can safely say that I don't regret buying it!

£13.00

The next thing is from New Look. I've been really enjoying New Look recently, I used to hate it but since buying some Disco Pants and shoes in there it's grown on me!

Anyway, I was on the hunt for a flannel check/tartan shirt, I looked in a few places and this was the closest thing I found to what I wanted. It cost more than what I wanted to pay but I do really like it so I'm happy. Haven't worn it yet but I think it'll just be a casual top to pair with leggings for uni or a casual day out. I also bought it in a size 12 because the 10 looked quite fitted and I wanted it to be slightly baggy. I almost bought a size 14 but the size difference wasn't much so I went with the 12.

£17.99

On to more makeup...

The 3 for 2 deal across makeup is happening in Boots at the moment which is very dangerous especially as I have vouchers and coupons for extra points building up in my bag!

You know them times when ALL your everyday makeup runs out at once? That happened to me one morning. I was scraping the last fragments of concealer out of the tube, my liquid eyeliner hardly had anything left and I had seriously hit pan on my Rimmel Stay Matte powder so everything needed replacing.

So I bought a new Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in shade 1 - £4.19 - LINK

A new L'Oreal SuperLiner which is pricy but I can't leave the house without it! I had to buy the gold tube one because they only had a sparkly version in the black tube so I don't know what's happening there. - £6.49 - LINK

And I also couldn't find my shade of the Rimmel Stay Matte! So I decided to give the new Collection Lasting Perfection powder a whirl. So far, I really like it, it's a much softer and creamier texture compared to the Rimmel powder but I'll probably still buy a back up of the Rimmel because that's just the kind of person I am... haha - £2.99 - LINK (I think I must have a repackaged version).

Exciting mail arrived the other day! My trusty ILAH Brow Powder. This is a little different to the one I usually use which is just one pan but I bought the travel kit to try out a few different colours. I'll have a review on this product sometime next week!

I finally got round to buying some new things for my ear. There's a shop in the Ardale centre in Manchester called Duty Free and it self all kinds of weird and wonderful things. I used to buy my piercing things from Afflecks Palace in the Northern Quarter but Duty Free is miles cheaper.

I only have my ear stretched to 5mm and I'm not stretching it any further, its been a 5 for about 6 months now and I like it. So I bought a new taper and a plug. Both were only £1 which is great. I'm wearing my plug now and I actually really like it, Tom commented that it's much more 'civilised' hahaha!

The last thing I've bought recently is paint. Riveting I know. But I wanted to redecorate my room and grey was the look I was going for to brighten up my room (my old wallpaper was black so as you can imagine, it's significantly brighter now despite it being grey). I went with Misty Mountain by Dulux which is an off white-grey, so it's quite light. You may have seen my redecorating post so you can see what the finished look is there!

£18.98 per tin

And that's everything!

Look out for reviews as I'm planning on writing one on the ILAH brows soon, the Stila blush definitely and the Collection Powder too, I might write a comparison post on that and the Rimmel Stay Matte!

My Hair Care Routine & Hair Products I love! 2014

Hello everyone!

In this post, I'm going to tell you everything you might want to know about my hair. This includes my general hair care routine and my current favourite hair products! I feel like this post could get pretty long winded so let's get cracking!

First, I like to use different shampoo and conditioners depending on what I plan to do with my hair after washing. My hair is naturally very thick and curly so sometimes I like to straighten it after washing but on other occasions I leave it curly.

At the moment, I have 3 sets of different shampoos and conditioners.

My most used brand these days is Aussie. I use the Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner and on the odd occasion I'll use the 3 minute miracle conditioner just to give my hair some extra tlc! (REVIEW) I absolutely love Aussie hair care, I have done for years and years, their products smell amazing, some smell like bubblegum and some products smell very peachy. They leave your hair feeling clean, fresh and healthy and Aussie is often of 3 items for £10.00 at Boots which is a great deal.

Every so often I reach for my John Frieda Everlasting Blonde shampoo and conditioner. I use this maybe once or twice a month to revive the blonde in my hair. It works really well for that but doesn't really do much in the way of keeping your hair healthy which is why I don't use it all the time. When I had purple in the ends of my hair I used this shampoo and conditioner quite a lot but when I went to have the purple bleached out it went green. Really really wouldn't recommend this is you have crazy colours in your hair!

On my curly hair days I love to use Umberto Giannini's Calm Curls shampoo and conditioner. This was my prefered hair product all throughout college when I never ever wore my hair straight. It helped maintain my curls and keep them frizz free. I'd certainly recommend this brand to my curly haired followers!

I use various different products for styling my hair, again it depends how I'm wearing my hair.

First, I use the Elnette Heat Protector which I've forgotten to add in the picture but you can see it in THIS haul post. It's a great heat protector. I used to use one by Tresemme but couldn't find that one in Boots so I picked up the Elnette one. I use it every time I wash my hair and it seems to work a treat. It doesn't have a strong scent or leave any residue on my hair so that's great as far as I'm concerned!

If I'm wearing my hair curly I always scrunch the Umberto Giannini Shapley Curls Mousse in to my hair when it's wet. Don't use too much because it'll make your hair crispy but if you use it properly and evenly distribute it, it can really help your curls remain light and bouncy instead of drying limply.

I also use the Umberto Giannini Volume Mousse on occasion. I don't use it as often these days because I've been wearing my hair straight and I don't use mousses when I intend to straighten my hair. When I do use this though I scrunch it near to the roots and it gives my hair great volume, perfect for a night out!

The Umberto Giannini Flirty Curls Scrunching Jelly used to be a firm favourite of mine, I loved it! These days it's not something I reach for often as it's difficult to use. With it being a thick jelly it's very easy to mess up your hair, it can stick together and become crispy...not ideal when you've just washed your hair! This is definitely a product to use on wet hair and it does work really well, you just have to practice with it. It's definitely a product I'd take on holiday because I wear my hair curly a lot on holiday.

I bought a travel size of the Umberto Giannini Backcomb in a Bottle a while ago and I keep meaning to buy the full sized version as it's so good. I use dry shampoo quite a lot because I like the volume that it adds to my hair. This does the same thing but doesn't leave weird white powder in your hair. I love to just spritz some of this in my roots, give it a bit of a plump and I'm good to go. This is a good product to have if you like to style your hair in big quiffs and things like that. Beware though that it can leave your hair feeling a bit sticky if you use too much of it.

I absolutely loved the L'Oreal Matt & Messy Salt Spray in summer last year. I often ran a few soft curls through the ends of my hair and sprayed this in after. It really gave the curls a tousled, messy and beachy look. I can't wait to start using this again when the summer comes along. Not that you can't use it all year round... I just prefer that hairstyle in the summer! I have a review on this product which you can see HERE.

Lastly, Batiste's XXL Plumping Powder. Now, I'm not going to lie, this product does it's job really well. If you want volume, you'll get it. It's just so awkward to use, the first time I applied it my hair just stuck together! It was bloody awful. Used sparingly though you can achieve a really nice volumous hairstyle however I do prefer the Backcomb in a bottle as it's much easier to use.

To maintain the look of clean hair in-between washes I use two things.

First, Batiste Dry Shampoo. This will come as no surprise and I won't waffle because everyone is familiar with this I'm sure!

Next, I really like to use the Dove Leave in Conditioner. I don't use this every day like I do the dry shampoo but maybe twice a week I'll spritz this throughout the ends of my hair and it leaves it smelling fresh and looking clean and healthy! I have just wrote a review on this product which you can see if you scroll down a little....

For finishing off my hair I like to use the Toni & Guy Finishing Shine Spray when I've  straightened it. Unfortunately you can't buy this product in stores anymore, it still baffles me why they discontinued it but you can still buy it on eBay and Amazon. I have a review HERE where you can see where to buy it. It's a perfect finishing touch to straight hair as it smells lovely, adds some extra shine and stops static and fly away hairs ruining your look.

If I've curled my hair or put it up in any way I like to use the Elnette Hairspray in Strong Hold. I've used this hairspray for so long because it works really well without leaving your hair crispy. You can just brush this out at the end of the day and you're hair doesn't look greasy or sticky. It's great!

As far as tools, I use my Tangle Teezer mostly, I especially like to use it on wet hair as it just glides through effortlessly and painlessly which, if you have curly hair, you'll know how much brushing can hurt. I bought mine from Amazon for about £8.00, considerably cheeper than in Boots and I'm so glad I bought it. Couldn't recommend it enough!

I also have a Teazing Comb which I bought from Sally's. I mostly use this on my fringe to give it a bit of volume and it works great. It definitely works better than a fine tooth comb which I used to use for backcombing. I remember it being about £7.00 which I didn't think was too bad.

Lastly, I have a slightly battered hair brush which was originally from Avon. I definitely need a new one but the only use this has now is when I'm straightening my hair I run this through with the straighteners. I definitely need a new hairbrush though.

My hairdryer is one by Tresemme, it's the Ionic model I think which is a few years old now but it's still going strong and both my sister and I use it. It's served us well! It has various heat and power settings with a cool option too, I like it a lot.

I've had several pairs of GHD hair straighteners over the years and I think you simply can't beat them. In my opinion they are the best. They are pricy I'll admit but they last for years and they do the job perfectly. I have the standard size which works great on my thick, unruly hair, I used to want the thick plated GHDs but these work fine so I don't really think I'd spend the extra money on them to be honest.

I recently had my mop chopped so it's looking considerably shorter these day but, granted it looks a lot better for it. The green was creeping back around the ends as the dyes were fading that they used to cover it up. When I went to the hair dressers the guy that did my hair said that one side of my hair was longer than the other which was weird and the ends were looking a bit grim.

I asked for a blunt cut and he said I'd have to have about 2 inches off for my hair to be even around the bottom so it must have been all over the place haha. I didn't have any layers put in because I'm not loving the layered look these days for some reason. Also I'm thinking about getting a middle parting next time I have my highlights so I'm in the midst of making that decision and didn't want to make any huge changes!

My current routine to achieve the straight hair in the picture above is (nothing revolutionary):

1. Wash hair using Aussie or John Frieda shampoo and conditioner
2. Spray Elnette Heat Spray in wet hair
3. Brush hair with Tangle Teezer
4. Dry hair with hairdryer
5. Straighten hair
6. Spray Toni & Guy Finishing Spine Spray

TIP: My hair dresser told me not to leave my hair wrapped in a towel after washing it as the towel soaks up the moisture that my hair should be soaking up! I suppose that does make sense. He said if your hair's dripping wet just give it a quick go over with the hair dryer then leave it to air dry.

So that's everything! Sorry for the longwinded post but I hope it was helpful or at least interesting to read!

What are your favourite hair care products?

A spot of redecorating!

Hello everyone!

If you read my 2014 goals post, you'll remember that I wanted to redecorate part of my room. It's been bugging me for ages but I just never found the time to do it. This past week was reading week at my university so, naturally, no reading was done but redecorating finally did happen.

Two walls in my from were wallpapered, and they looked really nice at first but because it was black wallpaper it started to wear away leaving it patchy and white. I would use black wallpaper again but only in a place where the wall would never be touched. My bed was against my black wallpaper so I think that's why it began to wear away. Not only that, it made my smallish size room look even smaller and darker. I did enjoy the darkness somewhat though, I liked the idea of my room resembling a cave back in the day...

So I went with paint. Basically, I couldn't be bothered messing with wallpaper again and paint is convenient yet it still looks like you made an effort. I bought my Dulux paint from B&Q in the shade Misty Mountain which is a light grey. It was almost £19.00 a tin but it was on buy one get one half price. I didn't use both so I returned one and got a £14.00 refund! Woo!

It took me about 3 hours to strip the wallpaper, around the window was tedious and difficult but I ploughed through haha. Then it took me only about an hour and a half to paint both walls. I was hoping that it would dry without needing another coat but in the morning you could see the old purple paint showing through. So I gave it another coat and it was fine.

Before:

After:

It's strange because I wasn't too enthused by the change at first. When I looked at the before picture I thought it looked a lot nicer wallpapered. Not only that my sister described it as 'horrible' and 'basic', she couldn't understand why I would want grey walls.

After looking at it for a few days though it's grown on me. It makes my room a lot brighter which will be ideal if I ever get round to my other 2014 goal of starting a YouTube channel. My room also looks a lot cleaner now, I don't know whether that's just the freshen up or the lighter colour but it looks a lot healthier. It's a lot easier to manage, if something marks the wall it can be easily touched up which is something that couldn't be done with the old wallpaper. The grey colour still matches everything else in my room which means I didn't have to splash out on new bedding and curtains and carpets etc, it matches my green wall really well too!

The Dulux paint itself was a little difficult to work with, maybe because it was a matt paint, I'm not sure but it was hard work getting it to apply evenly. However it didn't have the strong paint scent that you might be accustomed too. I was going to sleep in my sister's room the night I painted my walls but there was no need. It dried within about 4/5 hours and it washes off yourself fine but it doesn't come off clothes, I ruined a pair of perfectly good black leggings that day.

Whilst decorating my room I smashed a lamp, almost smashed a candle holder, re arranged the books that live on my shelf and decided that I'd like to put one of the montage picture frame things on my new wall! :)

£18.98 Buy one, get one half price!

What do you think?
Do you prefer the paint or the old wallpaper?

Dove Hair Therapy | Leave in Conditioner

Hello everyone!

I bought the Dove leave in conditioner a while ago hoping that it would keep the ends of my hair nourished and healthy looking between washes. Generally, I have very strong and healthy hair, I wash it about once a week, twice at the very most because it really doesn't get that greasy, just a bit of dry shampoo and I'm good to go!

I did start to find the ends of my hair feeling quite dry though when I had purple ombre and after I had the purple bleached out. If you remember, I had to have FIVE lots of bleach at two hair dyes applied from about half way down to the ends of my hair when my hair drastically turned green when I was having my purple removed. Since then I've been trying my best to maintain the good condition of my hair. It wasn't in bad condition but it was very dry. Along with the Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner and this Dove leave in conditioner I think my hair's back to it's usual self.

You use this in a similar way you would a dry shampoo except you don't apply it to the roots of your hair. I just shake the bottle well then give my ends a quick spritz of this and it instantly livens it up again. You can use it on wet hair too which helps to lock in moisture as your hair dries. It also smells divine! It would seem like you've just washed and styled your hair after applying this, it smells so fresh and clean, it says it includes 'almond, coconut and argan oils' which results in quite a fruity scent. It's very uplifting and in no way an overpowering scent.

You might think this will leave your hair looking greasy but it honestly doesn't. Not on dry hair anyway. It's very light weight, it doesn't weigh your hair down at all, it just makes your hair feel hydrated and clean and fresh. Unlike dry shampoo it doesn't leave a white powdery look on your hair, probably because this is a liquid, but it doesn't leave any unwanted residue.

I think this is definitely worth a purchase if, like me, you're not keen on washing your hair daily or every other day. Paired with a little dry shampoo, you'll be able to get a few more days out of your hair. I'd also recommend it if you have naturally quite dry hair or you're trying to nurse damaged hair back to health. After all the bleach I had on my hair, this has really helped to restore moisture and hydration. It's such a lovely product to have on hand and it lasts a really long time too because you don't have to use a lot of it to freshen up your hair. I go through so much more dry shampoo than this leave in conditioner.

After using this it's really made me want to try out some other Dove hair products, maybe a shampoo and conditioner. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Awesome Nachos!

Hello everyone!

Not too long ago I had a weird craving for nachos! I don't really eat nachos regularly so I don't understand where the craving came from but nonetheless I really fancied some. The nachos we made were soooo yummy, quick and simple to make that I thought I really needed to tell you how to make them yourself.

It's really easy, you just throw it all in a dish, put it in the oven for 15mins and they're good to go!

The ingredients:

Tesco's own salted tortilla chips
Doritos Salsa Dip
One red onion
Tesco's own Mature Cheddar Cheese, grated
Cool Sour Cream and Chive dip

1. Put one whole packet of tortilla chips in a baking dish
2. Add salsa dip over the top
3. Sprinkle half a chopped onion over the chips
4. Sprinkle a generous amount of cheese over the top
5. Put on the top shelf of a pre-heated oven for about 15mins. Keep your eye on the cheese for burning.
6. Leave to cool and enjoy!

These nachos probably aren't the healthiest of snacks but they sure are delicious! I didn't put the sour cream and chive in the bowl to bake because I like the coolness to contrast with the hot salsa. You can also add peppers or chillies etc, I didn't because I didn't have any in the house when I made these.

What're your favourite nacho toppings?

Blackpool!

Hello everyone!

Have you had a nice half term break? What've you been up to? I had reading week this week, I'm ashamed to say that no reading has been done however I have been quite productive, I redecorated my room, went to Blackpool and did a few other bits and bobs. My Dad, Sister, her friend and myself went to the Pleasure Beach on Saturday (22nd) as the wristbands were on offer and the weather was nice so I took some pictures for you.

We go to Blackpool all the time because it's fairly close to where we live, it has some good rides and the queues don't get to a 3 hour wait for one ride like they tend to at places like Alton Towers. It's also quite reasonable priced, the tickets were on offer for £19.99 but at most they're £25.00 online and £30.00 at the gate throughout summer. Usually it'll cost about £40.00 for entrance to a theme park.

Anyway, hope you enjoy looking at a few pics!

For Blackpool, the weather treated us really well. It was still cold but the sun was out and it didn't rain!

The Big Dipper is one of the oldest rides there along with the Aeroplanes and the River Caves which have been there since the late 1800s, if you've been to the Pleasure Beach you'll know which rides I mean. If I remember rightly the Big Dipper opened in 1905 so it's over 100 years old! I love the wooden roller coasters at Blackpool, they're just really old fashioned and cool. My favourite is the Grand National! It could do with a painting though... looking a bit rusty!

Of course, when you go to Blackpool the roller coaster of interest is 'The Big One' or the 'Pepsi Max' whichever it's officially called. It's 250 foot high, terrifying if you've never been on it before but absolutely the best ride there!

Infusion was new in 2007 and it's the most twisty roller coaster I think I've ever been on. So much track in such a small place. It used to be the Traumatiser ride at Southport but when that shut Blackpool got the ride.

Avalance is such a cool ride. I found it quite fitting to go on with the Winter Olympics being on TV. It's basically like a bobsleigh, no tracks you just kind of go down the slide at high speed. It's really great!

Ultimately though, the best ride is the big one. You can see a POV HERE and if you're not scared of heights you can see amazing views from the top all across Blackpool and the beach!

Have you ever been to Blackpool?
What's your favourite theme park? I'm dying to go to Thorpe Park but it's quite far away from where I live.

DIY Vintage Storage Boxes... for FREE!

Hello everyone!

Last summer I bought some MOPPE storage draws from Ikea with the intention of painting them to match my room. I never actually got around to painting them after deciding that I quite liked the way they looked just plain. However a few days ago I had the bright idea of wallpapering the draws!

I've taken pictures of how I did it as I thought it was a really nice project to get stuck in to as it's completely free if you already have the item you want to wallpaper.

'How is it free?' I hear you say. Well, if you didn't know already, you can walk in to places like B&Q, HomeBase etc and just take a few wallpaper samples home with you! Make sure you take enough to cover the items you want to wallpaper and you're good to go.

So let's get cracking!

You'll need:
Wallpaper
Scissors
PVA glue
Pencil

You can see the 'before' picture above. Nice draws but pretty plain I think you'll agree.

I only took two samples because the blue/green wallpaper had lots of different patterns on it. I didn't use the pink paper in the end but I do have other plans for that!

First lay out the wallpaper and decide which parts are your favourite.

Then place your draw face down on the wallpaper and draw around it with pencil.

Once you have everything drawn out, cut out the shapes with scissors or a penknife, whichever works best for you.

Now we need to glue the wallpaper on!

Make sure you apply a generous amount of glue all the way to the edges so that the wallpaper doesn't peel off around the edges.

If the wallpaper isn't the exact size you can trim the edges when the glue has dried properly.

To help the wallpaper dry flat with no bubbles I piled some books on top of the draws while they were drying.

About 2 hours later they were pretty much dry although you could leave them overnight if you'd prefer.

Above, you can see the final product! I was thinking about doing the sides of the box too but I haven't made my mind up about that yet!

So, what do you think?
Are you going to start wallpapering everything in sight now? I think I am...

So you think you know my blog...?

Hello everyone!

If you didn't know, I've been blogging here at MysteriousNeonLights since August 2012. If I remember rightly, my first post was a TKMaxx haul... things haven't really changed haha. In 2012, I think I posted twice, not a massive effort there however I picked it back up again in February 2013. For many many months I was posting to a little audience I remember having less than 10 followers for such a long time and I also remember being stuck at 16 for a long time too. I was totally okay with my small audience though, it actually used to kind of scare me when I got a new follower, I was like 'Omg that's someone else who wants to be entertained by my ramblings...I must make my posts better immediately!' Over the last few months though I've gained a lot of new followers (hello everyone!) so I thought it was time to take a look back at some of my older posts, even if just for the laughs, not for the information...

I also really wish I'd taken screenshots of all my old design layouts to show you the evolution of my blog... there's been a few!

1.
My second ever post was an MUA haul. £30's worth of palettes, blue eyeshadow and gel eyeliners that hardly ever get used. I think you can still buy all the palettes now if you take a fancy to any of them.

2.
Sprinkleofglitter's BEDROOM BEAUTY CHALLENGE 27/2/13
What happened to this?
I think the theme was 'pink' so here I am sporting some sparkly pink eyeshadow, bad photographs and probably numerous typos!

3.
A tag that, as usual, I wasn't actually tagged to do. I think this was the first post I ever got a comment on though so as you can imagine I was chuffed to bits!

4.
I was as happy as larry to be going to a Biffy gig... I'd be pretty bloody cheery about it now tbh. But my blog heard about nothing else besides it for the month of March last year!

5.
My Mum doesn't half take me to some places....

6.
This lasted all of a week! But you can read about my first experience here hahaha. I swear it definitely did nearly kill me.

7.
My review of the infamous 120 eBay eyeshadow palettes that everyone buys yet nobody uses...

8.
My first ever MAC lippy... I wore it for months! And it's still way up there in my top 5 lipsticks!

9.
My first ever Forever 21 experience. I share so much excitement with you guys!

10.
That time when I put purple in my hair.

11.
I can't believe my desk used to be that messy!

I was over the moon that I met the author of True Blood. Such a lovely woman with such a brilliant imagination.

I remember being really excited for this post, I was adamant that it would get lots of views and prove itself really helpful. It didn't.

So that's brought us up to September 2013 where from then on I think my posts get better all round. I got a new camera and the quality of my pictures got better, the writing style improved, the products I started to talk about got more interesting (I hope) and I started to post more often too. I suppose we all start somewhere though don't we!

Let me know if you enjoyed reading this / laughing at my old posts!
If you feel like it, write something similar on your own blog and leave me comment so I can return the favour and have a giggle too.

See you next time,

Botanics Hot Cloth Cleanser!

Hello everyone!

I bought the Botanics Hot Cloth Cleanser a few weeks ago when it was on offer in Boots. I'd never tried anything from Botanics before but I was interested in trying a balm cleanser. Since then, I've used it pretty much everyday and it's quickly because one of my favourite skin care items. You may have seen me talk about it HERE and HERE. Today I thought I'd write a review for you, letting you know what I think about it and why it's my favourite!

There are lots and lots of balm cleansers out there and I've only tried one of the bunch but I really can't see myself straying away from this one for a while. I use this cleanser at night, I usually remove my eye makeup with just water first because I don't particularly like to put anything chemical near my eyes if I can help it (besides makeup obviously), then I rub this balm all over my face (not on my eyes) and leave it on for a few minutes while I go about my other business.

I like this cleanser for quite a few reasons, firstly it's great for sensitive skin. There are few products that I can put on my face and leave sitting there for longer than 2/3 minutes. In the past I've used the Liz Earle cleanser, the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean which is notorious for stinging people's skin and loads of other things and they just burn my face and I come out of the shower looking like a tomato. I also feel like they just waste my money because as soon as I put them on, I'm taking them back off again. I do nonetheless like the Peaches and Clean for my oily nose and chin because it helps dry them out a little.

The Botanics Cleanser is so gentle on the skin though that I could sleep in it and my skin would be fine. It says on the box not to use it on your eyes but I've had it near-ish to my eyes and haven't experienced any problems.

Aside from it being great for sensitive skin, it actually works wonders for the look of my skin too.  I know some people like to actually feel the product doing something but with this you can't yet you still see a difference. Since I've been using it, my skin feels more hydrated and smooth, it looks  polished, it reduces the redness of my skin too which used to bug me a lot. It seems to have kept my skin a little less prone to blemishes too which is great. It does remove makeup pretty well too but for that to work you need to use the muslin cloth that comes with it to remove the balm and makeup. Sometimes if I haven't had makeup on that day I just give my face a rinse and leave a bit of the balm on to soak in over night. I really love the smell of this product too although I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, it's a little zesty but fresh and familiar, I just don't know what it is.

Since using this cleanser I have noticed quite a big difference in my skin and I'd definitely re purchase it for that reason. I've even noticed that my makeup applies better because my skin it in better condition. It's a good feeling let me tell you!

You can buy this for £8.99 at Boots

L'Oreal Paris Miss Manga Mascara

Hello everyone!

L'Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara, that's what I have for you today. I bought this a few weeks ago, you can see it in THIS huge haul post, along with the new MaxFactor mascara which I haven't opened yet. I thought it was about time I told you what I think about this mascara after using it for a good few weeks now!

I have it in the shade black. I think there's three colours, another one is purple but I'm not sure of the third. I played it safe with the black. I kind of have mixed views on this mascara, there are pros and cons.

First of all, the wand is the most annoying thing ever. It's advertised as a '360 wand' or something along them lines but all they've done is make it really flimsy. I apply liquid eyeliner before my mascara and sometimes I accidentally get the liner on my lashes so I need a sturdy wand to brush through my lashes. This really doesn't do that, it bends everywhere and just doesn't get a good grip on your lashes. The wand itself is a bit tricky to use too, I don't know what they were trying to achieve here, the bristles are thick and they're distributed in clumps. It's really difficult to separate your lashes and stop them from sticking together.

As a result of the wobbly wand and dodgy bristles, it's super easy to get this mascara all over your eyes, nose, eyebrows, places where mascara shouldn't be.

Now after I've totally slated the wand, when you get used to working with this mascara and work out how to apply it best for you, it actually creates really nice, thick lashes with lots of volume. I'm not saying it's easy to apply but as the saying goes, no pain no gain!

I find that twising the brush as you apply it helps to separate the lashes and instead of going for one thick coat I apply two thin coats to build up the lashes and that tends to work okay for me. You just have to be really precise to not get it all over your face.

I like the formula of this mascara, it's a really deep black colour and the texture is quite thick. Again, thick formulas make for messy lashes sometimes but, like I said, if you're careful it's fine. It says on the Boots website that the formula has 'enlarging collagen spheres' in it. I'm not going to lie, I don't know exactly what that means. All I can assume is that it has little pieces of something in it to make your lashes appear thicker. I actually have a mascara kit that comes with them fibres in a seperate tube to create the look of false lashes. The Manga mascara doesn't make your lashes look false and in my opinion, they don't look any more volumous than if I was wearing one of my favourite volume mascaras such as MaxFactor's False Lash Effect or 2000 Calorie Mascara. What I will say though is that this mascara is a devil to remove! If you get it in your eyes, it stings like hell. It's pretty stubborn so be aware of that.

Overall, I think this is a nice mascara, I just wish they'd kept the wand normal, you don't benefit at all from a flimsy wand in my opinion. Other than that, I like it, I like the look you can achieve with it and I'll definitely continue to use it until it's all gone. I don't think I'd buy this one again because I think there's better mascaras out there for volume. I'm actually really intrigued by the purple version of this mascara though, I kind of wish I'd picked that up at the promotion price too, you don't really see purple mascaras anymore but maybe there's a reason for that... haha. Let me know if you've tried the purple one!
