Amsterdam Photo Diary | 17-19 Feb 2015

Hello everyone!
It was recently half-term here in the UK and as I work in a school I also got to lavish in a nice week off, muhahah (4 weeks, 4 days 'till the next one). To celebrate two of my friend's 22nd birthdays we booked a short break to Amsterdam! I've never been to Holland before so I was pretty excited, my two main aims were to drink plenty of alcohol and visit the Anne Frank house. Not necessarily in that order.
What I learnt in Amsterdam:
  • Either the Vodka or Coke must have flecks of actual, real 24 carat gold in it because it was €9 for a single (not even a double) drink. How do they live?! You have to take out a mortgage to go on a night out.
  • No matter when it is that I see another bicycle it will be too soon. Cyclists have the right-of-way over there, too, so even  if you're an innocent pedestrian you have to get the f**k outta the way. Or prepare to get dinged at.
  • If you just keep walking you will eventually find your way back to where you started.
  • You have not experienced a legit pancake until you've had a Dutch one.
  • Every set of stairs you climb will be an actual mountain. The buildings are so narrow that the stairs are practically vertical. I wish I'd taken a picture of the ones in our apartment. It was so funny. Here's a fairly accurate representation.

Here are some pretty scenic pictures:

The queue for the Anne frank house was in a league of its own. Definitely took over an hour to get to the door.

We went to Amsterdam's Ice Bar and it was bloody freezing. -9oc degrees the room was. Although we got 2 drinks of vodka and orange served in ice glasses so that was pretty cool.

Myself and an ice sculptured polar bear.

The club we went in genuinely gave us 2 free bottles of Prosecco. I actually despise wine but it beat paying €9 for a drink.

The above picture does not do the size of that Torah justice. It was huge.

Could I be more European? Bagel and Coffee. It was delightful.

On day two we went on a romantic canal cruise. Jokes. It was freezing and we sat outside the whole way, passive smoking. However, I did get a cool picture of the Anne Frank house.

I ordered a pancake with bananas, chocolate and cream. They cook the bananas in with the pancake mixture then you just pour the chocolate on. Omg it was gorgeous.

We visited the Torture Museum because we're a bunch of weirdos. We also went to the legendary Sex Museum but the only picture I got was of my friend stood next to a giant knob and I'm not sure she'd want that on my blog ;) Sorry guys, I can tell you're disappointed.

On the last night was went to what looked like a shady steak house called, Steak House. It was SO nice though. We were stunned. I ordered BBQ chicken, chips and grilled veg.

Then we meandered down to the infamous Red Light District (as you can see from the picture, the red lights know no bounds). It was like something out of a film. Why don't they have a male version? A Blue Light District?

That's yer lot.
Next on my agenda is Munich or Dublin. Stay tuned.

Thoughts of the day:
  • If you've not already seen, NuMe have a discount at the moment where you can order any pair of curling irons or curling wand for only $29. I've just ordered the 25mm ones which are supposed to be $140. Use code: ukv29 to receive the offer. I'm so excited to receive mine!
  • So which is it? Blue and black or white and gold? I see blue and black but the whole fiasco serious freaked me out at work today. My head could not accept that some people see the dress so differently. Still can't if I'm honest.
  • I think I'm currently suffering my first case of heart burn. I haven't had it before but my chest is burning so I presume it's heart burn. Woe is me.

Boohoo Haul!

Hello everyone!

Here's a cheeky little haul post for you...enjoy!

Boohoo.com is the answer to most of my prayers. I can always find really nice clothes on there and more often than not a good discount code to go with them! I was perusing the site for some new boots when it snowed here a few weeks ago, after my feet got saturated walking to work, and I found a few other gems in the sale too. So this is what I bought!

I think they had a sale on knitwear at the time and I saw this jumper for £8! I've worn it quite a few times since buying it and my Mum has been on and ordered herself one too. I love the chevron print and grey scale colours... it's right up my street! It also goes with anything and everything.

I bought this floral top for £6 for work but I like it so much that I've even been wearing it out of work as well. I will have an OOTD post featuring this up soon :)

Now onto what I went online for... these boots. I needed something waterproof and warm and these ticked both of those boxes. They are also quite dissimilar to my other black boots so I could get the old ones re-souled if I wanted to. These were £16 in the sale.

Finally, because I have no self control, I ordered a second pair of boots, also for £16. These are definitely not waterproof so I'll have to wear with caution. They're a faux suede knee high boot with gold toe caps. Lovely. Still haven't decided what I'll wear these with yet. The gold is a little bit out there.

Food, Fog & Frizz | My Sunday Ritual

Hello everyone!

I haven't written a post like this in many, many moons. When I first started blogging I would occasionally write daily diary posts I suppose you'd call them. Where I'd take pictures of things I've done throughout the day and write something on them. Like a day in the life. You can see some examples here and here

Over the past few months my Sundays have become quite a routine so I thought I'd share it with you!

Who loves a big bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes?
Now I have a craving for crunch nut cornflakes.
Oops.

I usually roll out of bed about half 10 on a Sunday. Make a coffee and return straight to bed to have some internet time. Sunday seems to be the day I browse Pinterest and before I know it an hour has passed.

Then my Mum picks me up and we go for a lovely sauna and steam. I took the above picture last week... it was so foggy in the hills! I only ever wash my hair on a Sunday (don't look so revolted) my hair just doesn't get greasy so I leave it to do its thing. I do like to relax in the steam room with a head full of shampoo and conditioner though!

We either go shopping before or after swimming and I buy my work dinners for the following week (won't have to do that this weekend as it's half term woo!). I usually stock up on treats for the week too, this week it was copious amounts of crisp. I'm also really addicted to this Mallow Dreams from Morrisons. Has anyone seen them? They're gorgeous!.

Whilst waiting for tea to cook I usually blow dry my Mum's hair for her because I'm an awesome daughter. Then if I have time I'll style my own or wait until later depending on what I plan to do with it.

This week we had cottage pie for tea. It was beautiful. We also had those baby corns with it, my mum fries them in a pan with butter. They are my absolute favourites.

Does anybody else get in their PJs as soon as they step back through the door? I do! Here's what my hair was like pre-styling.

And here's what it looks like after!

By now, time is usually getting on and I'm feeling pretty sad that Monday is fast approaching so I usually start to wind down with a brew and some TV. Sounds quite boring but there's nothing better on a Sunday evening in my opinion!

So that's my Sunday ritual.. I've become very fond of it over the last few months!
Do you have something that you do every single weekend?

OOTD: Weekly Work Wear | 26th Jan - 6th Feb

Hello everyone!

This is a little later than usual because I've only just got around to writing it. I have a back log of potential blog posts to work through, mainly because I keep buying things I shouldn't, so I have accumulated quite a lot of work outfits to show you!

Picture 1:
Dress: Boohoo.com
Blazer: Forever 21
Tights: Primark

Picture 2:
Dress: Boohoo.com
Blazer: Dorothy Perkins
Boots: Boohoo.com

Day 3: (Casual training course day)
Jumper: Forever 21
Leggings: Forever 21
Boots: Coolway (TKMaxx)

Day 4:
Blazer: Primark
Pants: Primark
Top: (Black scoop neck) New Look
Shoes: London Rebel

Day 5:
Top: Primark
Cardigan: Primark
Pants: Primark

Day 6:
Dress: Boohoo.com (Not my favourite colours if I'm being honest)
Blazer: Dorothy Perkins
Boots: Boohoo.com

These are outfits I've worn over the last 2 weeks or so, I definitely need to get some new work clothes when I next get payed... I'm sick of wearing the same thing all the time! Does anyone else get like this?

That Primark blazer was an absolute steal. I found it in the sale for £10 and it's so thick and warm, you could definitely wear it as a jacket. The only problem is, it matches jeans and leggings better than work clothes because it's patterned.

Anyway, hope this was interesting to look at!

SheInside | Haul and Review 2015

Hello everyone!

Okay, so I'd heard of the She Inside website for quite a while but never took the time to have a look and order something. Then one night I was on Facebook or YouTube or some kind of social media and saw an advert which caught my eye. Shortly thereafter I found myself adding item after item into my basket...

Rather stupidly, it didn't cross my mind to look for some reviews until after I'd placed my order but I'm pretty glad that I didn't because I wouldn't have bought anything. I felt a little sick after spending about £90 only to find a serious lack of positive reviews online.

3 weeks later my parcel arrived and I couldn't be happier with everything I bought.

The most 'substantial' item I bought is this coat which was in the sale for $37.19 and I've just shocked myself because I thought I payed less than that. Anyway, I didn't realise you could change the currency to £ so that's why all my prices are in dollars.

I was nervous that this was going to be absolutely nothing like the picture but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. One good thing about the website is that some items have pictures of people wearing them which they upload to earn points. That's a really useful way of seeing what something actually looks like.

This is quite a thin coat so I've decided it is going to be a spring coat but it is really fluffy and warm on the inside and I bet with a scarf and gloves it would keep you pretty toasty in the winter too. One downfall is that it won't stop leaving balls of fur everywhere and I don't know how to stop it. Any ideas of how to prevent this will be gratefully received in the comments!

I ordered a size M which fits me pretty snugly but I won't be able to fit anything thick underneath so I'd probably go with an L next time just for some extra room.

Next is this thick blue jumper which cost $11.98. This came in a few different colours, I think red and green were some. This will be really nice and comfortable to wear but I have had to wash it first because it smelt like plastic. I have heard that this is a common occurrence and I'm not sure that I want to know why it smells like plastic. I shall look forward to wearing it when it's been washed though.

This looks better on than hung up... trust me. It also could to with an iron. I bought this after seeing someone wear a blouse in this colour paired with some leather-look pants and it looked gorgeous so I'm really looking forward to recreating that look when it is creaseless. This cost $11.78.

This t-shirt is definitely one of my favourite items and I'd look for similar things next time I place an order. It's just a boxy, thin material top but the patterns make it interesting and a bit hippy-looking. I'll love this when the weather picks up with some sunnies on and denim shorts.

Even that back has detail! This cost $10.74.

This is definitely going to be my next night-out top. Paired with some high-waisted pants and heels... it'll look awesome ;) How cute is the blue dinosaur? This cost $11.36.

This top came in a variety of different prints and I could have ordered quite a few but I reigned myself in and picked this multi-coloured feather pattern for $14.46. I thought this was going to be really thin and cheap material but it's reasonably thick actually. Definitely something you could wear in the winter with a strappy top underneath. The sleeves on this are very skinny though so maybe bear that in mind if you like some arm room.

I couldn't resist this shirt when I saw it just because I love the colours. I need to start getting wear out of this before the weather picks up. The sleeves can be worn rolled up or all the way down and it's made of a thick flannel kind of material. I think once it's had a wash with some fabric softer it will loosen up a bit but right now it's quite stiff. This cost $12.40.

This skirt I also bought for the pattern. I'll definitely be taking this to Amsterdam with me for an evening outfit because I just love it. This cost $13.44 and I'm really glad I found it because it's better quality than some of the skirts I've bought at River Island for twice the price!

Lastly, I picked up two scarves which are equally as pretty. This one is definitely more autumnal with it's dark shades. It's made of very thick and warm material and cost $11.90.

This second scarf cost $12.60 and is made of smoother material than the other one. I love the cool-toned geometric print as I don't have anything similar already at home. They also had this in a pink-toned version which I was extremely tempted by but how many scarves does one possibly need?

That's where my She Inside shopping spree came to an end. Don't forget all them prices are in dollars so when converted, my total bill was considerably less. For example, those scarves ended up being about £7.00 each which is really great value for money.

***

The bottom line is that I would absolutely place another order with She Inside. It is a little bit nerve wracking because the website is so different to what I'm accustomed to. For example, they give you an order number on the screen after you've placed the order but they don't send you a confirmation email... you have to track your order yourself online so make sure you make a note of your order number!

Additionally, I didn't receive an invoice with my order when it arrived so unfortunately I'm not sure how you would go about returning goods. I did consider this and came to the conclusion that it would probably cost more to return it that the item is actually worth so if something didn't fit me or I didn't like it I would probably sell it or give it to someone. Please leave me a comment if you know how to return something :)

Also, the discount codes are quite unusual. I think I had one for 36% off which I applied at the checkout expecting 36% to be taken off my total bill. Everything I bought was already in the sale so some items had 20% off, some only had 10% etc and that code made all the items have 36% off unless they were already discounted higher than that. If you understand? So overall, it wasn't that big of a discount because everything I picked was discounted anyway.

Something else to note is the sizing, I'm a UK size 10, generally, and I bought everything in Medium and everything fits fine. The 'one size' items fit well but if they were any smaller it would be verging on too small. Sleeves in particular seem to be pretty skinny. The majority of items I bought have no tags on them, so none that you take off and none that are sewn in except the green blouse.

If you look at the delivery information it says UK standard delivery takes 8-15 days (or there abouts) you also need to take into account the 7 days processing time it takes them to pack your order before they ship it so if says 8 days you're looking at 15 days. I think mine took 16 days to arrive which I was pretty impressed with. I also wasn't charged any custom charges if you're wondering and it was quite a bulky parcel.

I think that's all the worth-while information I can give you about the site. Overall, if you see something you really like on the website I'd suggest that you order it and hope for the best! All the reviews I read were pretty negative but they were all written in 2013 or even earlier so the website must have improved since then.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me in the comments and I'll reply to you!
