Home Renovation | Bathroom Pt.1

Does this post seem familiar to you? If it does, you may remember my Loft Conversion posts which you can see here, here and finally here.

When my room was finished the intended bathroom area was left with the door closed on it for over 4 months. With lots of other things to be getting on with, it wasn't until a few weeks ago that is was so much as looked at again.

I hope you can excuse the grainy photos, the room has no window so it's always really dark but you can still see what's goin' down.

Hope you enjoy part 1 of my bathroom conversion...

I actually forgot to take pictures from the very beginning so most of the plasterboard was up by this time. The only major change you can see here though, is the wall that was built out to make a shower cubicle. The ceiling is too low just to buy a glass shower enclosure so all the walls will be tiled and there will, eventually, be a glass door on the front.

Plaster boarding the walls and some pipes.

Here you can see behind the shower wall, this is where the toilet is going.

We used Celotex insulation because it can be fitted within in the beams rather than on top of them. This makes for an inch or so extra height from the ceiling. It's really good insulation but it costs about £6 per sheet which could get really pricy if you're insulating a large room.

Walls: Complete.

That white pipe is for the sink.

Shower fittings. We opted for a mixer shower because we found a really good deal on a Triton for £60. The electrics were already fitted so it could be changed in the future but I don't see why it ever will be.

These are the fittings for spot lights (there are two but I couldn't get them both in shot) and the fan. As we have no window it was essential that a fan was fitted to get rid of steam and reduce mould.

We actually have two light switches outside, one for an LED picture light which is on the wall above the sink (you can see this on the last picture) and one which puts the two spot lights and the fan on simultaneously. The idea is that if you're just using the sink or toilet you don't have to have the fan on but when you're in the shower, the fan will come on with the big lights. Does that make sense?

The fan is on a timer to continue to run for 5 minutes after the lights are switched off.

The shower had to be built up from the floor to allow a downward slope from the shower trap into the.... yep... macerator.

Plastering... my Dad's least favourite job in the world.

Drying plaster.... it takes days to dry :(

Several hours I spent scouring the internet for an inexpensive vanity unit and I reckon that no such thing exists. They were ridiculously priced and most of them were so ugly that I came up with a better idea.

Kitchen cupboards. I bought one 1000mm and one 600mm cabinet which are supposed to be for the walls in a kitchen. Next to each other, they fit right across the room like a glove. This disguises all the piping behind it and provides lots of storage space for towels and bathroom supplies.

Finally we took the blue wrapping off the shower and fitted it.

Then gave the walls their first coat of paint.

You can see here what the fan and spot lights look like as well as the LED picture light I was talking about earlier. I bought it off eBay for £16.

I bought the counter top from a local shop which sells odd cut offs. It's a matte dark grey with random specks of white in it. I think it cost £37. The back had to be cut down as it was far too wide for the units.

The sink is from B&Q and goes by the name of Nicolina. It's a counter top sink which my Dad would tell you is a devil to fit.

I also bought one of them cool waterfall taps for £25 from eBay and it's just as good as the ones you can buy from B&Q for £200. Let me know in the comments if you want the link to the seller I used.

The sink was finished off with a silver push plug which is awesome.

Then the rest of the room was painted too.

We have since fitted the macerator which I bought from eBay by the brand Uniflo as it was considerably cheaper than a Saniflo. We have fitted the toilet and floor and all that's left to do now is tile the shower, fit the actual shower and shower door which I still haven't ordered and we'll be good to go!

Part 2 should be up within the next 2 weeks hopefully and I shall definitely do a tour with better quality pictures when it's all finished.

I'll probably write a review of the Uniflo telling you how many times it's broken in a few months ;)
Let me know how yours has faired if you have one!

Chester Haul! | Jewellery, Fashion, Randoms

Well this post certainly hasn't been written before its time, about three weeks has passed since I went to Chester. But hey ho, better late than never. Today I thought I'd share with you all the goodies I very impulsively treated myself to because I definitely deserved it.

I don't know whether it was the new scenery and unfamiliar shops or the fact that everyone else was buying things too, but I just kept seeing things that I loved. I spent a lot of cash on this shopping trip but I've promised myself that it won't be happening again any time soon! Anyway, I hope you enjoy looking at all the pretty things :)

Never do I venture into Accessorise because I know I'll want all the things at ridiculous prices. Thankfully on this occasion all the jewellery was on 3 for 2 so I did pick up 3 necklaces. The only one I can find a link to online is the Tribal Collar Necklace. I love them all very much and they are my little treasures. *Heart-Eyed-Emoji*

The Debenhams sale definitely got me. I kept finding awesome deals that I just couldn't resist. The purple pencil skirt I picked up from Miss Selfridge for around £11 ... I just can't pass up a tribal pattern these days. Then I saw the leather skirt of my dreams in Oasis for £8. Yup. Eight. Pounds. I have several pairs of leather-look pants so now I can continue the theme in skirt-form. Love.

My photo editing has jumbled up shop order so briefly moving onto New Look, I bought this pink summer dress which I've not yet shown my Mum because she'd be shocked and stunned at my frivolity. I don't usually part with £20 on something so casual but I just love it. It's summery and it's pretty, it's tribal print and it's just everything I look for in... life. Cannot wait to wear it with a little denim jacket. See online here.

Back to Debenhams. I found this peachy coloured dress in Henry Holland, it was 25% off and I payed £18.75 for it. The whole style attracts me, I like the way it is structured on the top half and skater-style on the bottom. You can dress it up with heels or dress it down with boots and a scarf. I don't know, for something I don't usually go for, it really appealed to me. See online here.

Sticking with Debenhams, I picked up the cami (top, right corner) from Miss Selfridges. This cost £16 after a 30% reduction. The picture quality is rubbish after I've collaged them together but you can see it better on the picture online. It's called the Floral Twinkle Cami and it's gorgeous. It's all my favourite colours with glittery beads embroidered within it. Just stunning. I shall wear it with pride every day throughout summer....

I found a diamond among the rough in the H&M sale, this cute little skater dress cost me £7 and it's just perfect for work or throwing on for a casual day.

Finally, we went in a quaint boutique for a look around all the pretty things that you're frightened to touch. I could have bought a scarf, a rug, several pieces of furniture but I only came away with one little jam jar glass. This has fast become my favourite means of vodka consumption.

***

And there you have it, folks. That's everything I picked up in Chester. I spent a lot of money but there's not one thing that I won't get use out of so I don't regret a single item.

Let me know in the comments what you're favourite piece is and how you'd style it!

Hope you enjoyed reading!

Bedroom Spruce | Affordable Cushion Covers

Back in my uni days, particularly the first year, I would spend hours scrolling through Tumblr lusting after chic and boho bedrooms. I always loved the look of big, comfy beds scattered with cushions and blankets so I bloody well ordered myself some. That, though, was four years ago so last week I spruced up my bed and bought some brand new fancy covers which match my new bedroom decor.

eBay was of course the culprit again. I could afford some slightly more expensive covers this time around because I didn't have to purchase the inserts. You can buy them pretty cheaply though from sellers like this.

I bought three new 18"x18" covers all from the same seller who I would definitely recommend. They're all made from a thick, woven-like fabric which feels much more expensive than they actually were. I did have big problems trying to decide which designs to pick. There were just too many.

Green Geometric Print Cover - £5.98
Chevron / ZigZag Cover - £3.69
Patterned 'Nature' Cover - £6.39

I also bought two 20"x20" covers in the designs Ellie Aqua and Blooms Field Blue, these were £5.95 each. They are a much thinner and softer material than the previous three but still look and feel like expensive cushions. The zips work fine although you can tell that they are pretty cheap so they won't take much tugging before they break; you just have to be light handed when you use them. Otherwise these are perfect.

I'm really pleased with the way they've brightened my room and given it a bit of freshness for the upcoming summer time. I can see myself buying a few more in the future so I can swap and change often :)

Let me know if you've been sprucing your room up in preparation for summer, I'd love to hear your ideas!

See you next time,

Photo Diary | 28th April - 3rd May 2015

Eeee another week has shot by and my bank holiday weekend is over :( I've been looking forward to this long weekend since I started work in September haha. Only a small post this week, I haven't been remembering to take pictures so I've taken a few from my Instagram, too!

I used my new tea light holder for the first time and I think it's so pretty. It's blue but when it's lit up inside it turns multi coloured!

The hair on the right is some inspo for me. When I get paid I'm marching myself down to the hair dressers to get my mop chopped and coloured. It's been too long! I want it to be more of an icy blonde, especially towards the ends, as it's more warm toned at the moment and I fancy a change.

I'm obsessed with She Inside at the moment. I have only ever received one order from them so far but I have another order in the post right now and I'm already eyeing up some other bits. I just wish the shipping was faster. If you'd like to see my last haul it's here. I'm thinking of writing a wishlist soon, just to keep myself satisfied until payday when I can buy something lolol.

My Mum and I went to Weatherspoons for tea one night. It was £8 for two wraps and chips, 2 lattes and a can of that awesome lemonade. How cheap is that!?

My Saturday night consisted of... Snooker (currently watching the final as I write this), Summer Berries Cider which tasted nice but was very fizzy. Much more so than my normal Rekorderlig. And little Hector!

Bought this little puppy for the next time I fancy being tropical. Mango flavoured vodka. It is delightful. Tastes like Solero ice creams. Everybody needs to try it!

Sunday was wardrobe day. It was getting ridiculous. I couldn't see what was in there so I resorted to wearing only the stuff on top. I chucked a lot of things, gave some away and sold some on eBay... definitely feeling more organised.

Tomorrow I'm back in work :( But at least it pays for all my impulsive online shopping!

I'm off to paint my nails blue now, I'm on to the last of my Baby Beats China Glaze set which I shall review for you very soon.

Thanks for reading,
Hope you all have a lovely week!
