Damn Good Apps

I'm not a very loyal app user. If an app is recommended to me, I might download it and have a go but as soon as I get that little message about full storage... cya later son, nice knowing ya.

Examples would include, gaming apps, clothing apps, the majority of picture editing apps, the list goes on. But recently I was decluttering my phone and realised that several apps had actually survived a good few of my storage-freeing rampages. So, today I'm going to show you which apps I like and why.

1. Free Prints
This app is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who, like me, enjoys having actual, physical photographs rather than just digital ones.

'Why is that so spacial?' I hear you cry.

Well, it's free.

You can have up to 40, free, photographs each month and all you have to pay is the postage fee which is around £1.40.

2. Polaroid Zip App
If you have a Polaroid Zip, you're probably already familiar with this app. However, not only is it quick and efficient and printing photos, I think it makes a really good photo editing app just on it's own. It has tools such as overlays, correctors, boarders and is very easy to use.

3. HD Wallpapers
I've had this app for years. I use it for my lock screen, home screen and headers on Twitter and Facebook. They have a vast amount of wallpapers including: abstract, fantasy, floral, holidays, music, nature, scenery, patterns and sports to name but a few. There's definitely something for everyone here! It offers a wide range of free, high resolution, pictures to decorate your phone with, don't underestimate how happy a good phone background can make you feel. Having a good clear out and re-decorate cheers me up immensely.

4. Amazon Video
Gosh I love this app. If you have Amazon prime and you use the video aspect of it, I would highly recommend this tool. I don't think there's a night that passes me by that I don't switch off, get in bed and watch just one more episode of a, b or c.

5. Deutschbahn Navigator
When I was in Germany, this app was more than helpful. It was recommended to me by a German friend and as long as you know the names of the places you're going to/from in German then you will have no problems finding places. It's got a simple layout with minimal words so although it isn't in English, it's still very easy to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Deutschland.

6. Phonto
This is the app I use for adding text to my blog pictures! It has a font on it called Nemoy Light which I haven't seen elsewhere, and is my absolute favourite,  amongst lots and lots of other fonts. It's easy to use and has a few other features like overlays but, for me, this is just a really good platform for adding text to my pictures.

7. Layout (Instagram)
Like Phonto which has a specific purpose, this app really excels and making collages (in fact I'm not sure that it does anything else). An example being the picture above, it literally takes mere seconds to click on a phew photographs and chose which layout you want. Easy Peasy.

To summarise, I think there's a common theme running throughout these app favourites of mine. They're all 'easy to use'. I don't like having to learn how to use something... it just want to be able to use it straight away with no fuss. This is why I'm yet to buy a fancy camera and always resort to using my phone; I already know how it works.

What are your favourite apps?
Are you like me and enjoy the simplistic apps that life has to offer or are you a more adventurous-being?  Let me know in the comments!

Now I'm off to peruse the Boots Valentines Day perfume offers, for myself.

See you next time,

Printable Planner Stickers Haul!

Since I'm not willing to pay one hundred million pounds for a set of weekly planner stickers, I've gone down the printable sticker route. I've saved myself a lot of money by purchasing downloadable weekly stickers on Etsy and printing them off myself. Often, shops have discount codes such as buy three, get 10% off and as the packs themselves only range between £1.50-£6.00 they usually work out  far more affordable than stickers that are posted to you.

Today, I thought I'd show you a few of the first stickers I bought and since I've used a few of these sets already I'll be able to give you little reviews, too.

I'll link to shops wherever possible!

I placed an order with a shop called Eireen Stickers where I bought a few different sets.

The first one is called Abstract Geometric Planner Stickers, this is a weekly set which comes with two pages of stickers and is one of the larger sets. It definitely comes with enough to cover a weekly spread whereas some of the one-page sets can sometimes leave you with some white space.

The colours of this set looked a lot brighter online which is to be expected, I suppose, and I printed it on glossy paper but I'm considering re-printing it on matte instead to see if the colour improves.

This set cost £3.36

Next up is the Yellow/Pink/Berry set on the left and the Pink Lemonade set on the right. These sets cost £2.15 each and consist of one sheet of stickers. I've found that these work as long as you have lots of washi-tape on hand to fill in some white space.

Then I bought this Blue / Cream Abstract set and the Green / Pink Butterfly set which were also £2.15 each. I'm currently using the butterfly spread this week and I love the combination of colours. They're very pretty.

This Holiday Season set I used in the third week of January and I really loved the design. The polar bear full box was a particular favourite of mine!

Finally from Eireen Stickers, I bought this large Rustic Floral set which I assume I'll have enough to make a few weekly spreads out of. This was the most expensive set I've bought at £5.16 but I really love the colour combinations and I think this will be a lovely Spring spread.

From Alakazoo Designs I picked up this Happy Birthday set of stickers for the second week in January because my birthday was on the 7th! I printed this on glossy paper which made it really shiny and fun and colourful. This set cost £1.72 which is very reasonable.

Lastly, I picked up a few colourful occasion stickers. There was really no rhyme or reason for this I just felt a bit over whelmed by all the different choices so I picked what I thought I'd get the most use out of. So far, I haven't needed anything different although I would enjoy some coffee cup stickers!

So, from Farye Plans I picked up the following stickers:

Weather Tracking Set - £1.68
Doctors/Medical Icons - £1.68
Movie Marquee Stickers - £1.68
To Clean Stickers - £1.68
To Watch Stickers - £1.68
Pay Day / Bill Due Stickers - £1.68

Below, you can see the very first week of my planner! I used a January Set from Etsy which you can see here. The colours are lovely and I really like the finished look but I was disappointed that the 'weekend' banner didn't fit in the boxes so I wouldn't buy from this seller again.

I've had a few more practices at planning now and I'm definitely going to make a post to show what I've done so far. Also, let me know if you'd like to see a post on my recommended tools for using printable planner stickers!

Overall, I can't recommend printable stickers enough. After looking at the prices of normal stickers I just don't think I could afford to buy ones that are pre-printed and posted to you, or even justify spending all that money for that matter. After all, once you've paid for the printables you can use them as many times as you want. I'm thinking about maybe designing my own sets in the future because I'd like a side bar which I can use for budgeting my weekly spends so I'll let you know how that goes...

For now though, if you have any shop recommendations for printable stickers, let me know in the comments!

Hope this has been helpful,

Erin Condren LifePlanner First Impressions!

Does anyone have one of those annoying little chips on the side of your nail which catches on everything and pulls out a strand of hair every time you go to put it behind your ears? I'm sat chewing mine and definitely making it worse while I think of a greeting for the start of this post.

I finally have my planner! And today I thought I'd show you an unboxing / tell you my experience / give you my first impressions.

I placed my order on 30/12/15 with no hassle whatsoever. I used the coupon for first-time-orderers which I think was worth about $10.

The planner I picked was from the $50 range, it's the Honeycomb pattern and the only changes I made were adding my name to the front and changing the colour of the honeycomb pattern to a green called Seaglass.

I payed for the $19.99 delivery which was the cheapest option. (Yet still eyewateringly expensive IMO) They predicted my order would be shipped on 7/1/16 but it wasn't posted until the 8/1/15.

It was shipped with UPS and I could track the package online everywhere it went.

On 11/1/16 UPS attempted to deliver the parcel but no one was in so they tried again on 12/1/15 and luckily someone was in.

So it took 3 days for it to get from the US to my door which is pretty swift considering I paid for the cheaper option which says 8-12 working days.

However. I was landed with an £18 customs bill from UPS when they delivered it. Lovely.

So overall it cost:
$70 which was reduced to $60 when I used the coupon.
This was charged at just over £45 on my card.
With the £18 customs bill included, I paid £63 for the planner.

And it doesn't end there, does it? Since then I've bought a new printer, stickers, a guillotine. It's a damn expensive hobby!

Anyway, on a lighter note. It arrived in a really lovely box, packaged amongst bubble wrap and tissue paper.

There was a postcard and a few stickers on the top which is a nice gesture although not entirely sure when I'll use them.

And this is my planner!

I won't go into vast detail about what's inside because I'm sure you've seen many a video on this anyway.

As for my first impressions, I love the cover I picked and I'm betting that if I had the right size hole puncher I could make more, myself. I might try this one day - let me know what you think?

I like the large spiral coil because I intend to attach extra things like tickets, photos, souvenirs so it won't unwrap as it gets thicker.

I really like the quotes at the start of each month I've avoided looking at them all so it's a nice surprise as the year progresses!

The one thing I wish was different are the colour combinations for each month. Some of the colours I wouldn't put together and some of them don't fit the season well. But that's just my own opinion.

I'm really happy with everything else and I'm excited to start thinking about themes for each week!

So far, I was able to plan a few weeks because I was keeping notes on what I did each day in a notebook so I've had a little practice. I'm definitely going to write a post showing you what I've done so far as well.

I'm currently buying my stickers from Etsy and printing them off myself because it's far cheaper than having them posted to you. Also, you can print them as often as you want. If anyone has any stores they'd recommend for printables let me know in the comments because I'd love to try more!

Thank you for reading,

My 2016 Goals!

I'm so happy to finally write this post. I've had it in my drafts for a few weeks whilst I've been toying around with ideas but I'm pleased with the goals I've set myself.

If you you haven't followed my blog very long, I usually set myself resolutions or 'goals' at the start of the year then review them quarterly to see what I'm achieving and what I need to work more on.
Here are 2015's posts: January, April, AugustDecember
Here are 2014's posts: January, AprilAugustDecember

I've taken some time considering what I want to achieve this year and I've settled on the following 7 goals...

1. Write at least 8 posts a month on the blog

2015 started off well as far as my blog was concerned but as the months passed I blogged less and October is nowhere to be found which really disappoints me.

I was going to go for 10 posts a month but when I realised that would sometimes be more than 2 per week I knew at some point I wouldn't get there which would make me feel annoyed with myself and that's not what I'm trying to do.

With planning and inspiration I think 8 a month is totally do-able for me. Anything more is a bonus. I'm yet to organise a schedule for myself, at the moment I'm writing as and when I want to, but I'm going to work on a few things and see what I like best.

I really love reading old posts back so I'm desperate to get my blogging mojo back!

2. Open a Help To Buy ISA

With my savings from last year (which was one of my 2015 goals) I'm hoping to open a Help To Buy ISA account with the Halifax. It's a saving scheme in the UK where the government give you 25% interest on everything you save up to £12,000 if you're going to buy a house.

So, for every £200 I save, they give me £50. It's a really good saving scheme for first time buyers and while I'm still living at home I may as well save some of my wages whilst I can afford to.

3. Say 'yes' more

Last year, I had quite a lot of plans. I visited lots of places and went on days out but I still found myself turning down some plans. Sometimes it was because I really needed a weekend to myself and others it was simply because I couldn't be bothered.

This year, I'm going to say 'yes' more because of all the trips I went on, weekends away and nights out I enjoyed them all so I have no reason to say no.

4. Visit interesting places and collect souvenirs

This picture makes me want to quit my job and travel the Earth even if it means by foot because I have no job

I know this was one of my 2015 goals but I want to make a conscious effort to visit even more places this year. I'll keep you posted. And I've always thought souvenirs were either tacky or over priced but I quite like the idea of having a little travel diary on my fridge or a shoe box of treasures. I wish I'd started this sooner because I'd have quite the collection by now but it's better late then never, hey?

5. Read more

I've talked about this in my 2016 Reading Challenge post but I've been too busy watching TV to read this past year and I really want to get back into it. I'm currently 100 pages into a gothic novel called The Loney and I'm hoping to check at least 6 of the categories off from the challenge list come December.

Anyone want to join me? Any lovers of horror out there? We could have a little book club.

6. Scrapbook 2016

I really enjoy this feather
I have spent a bloody fortune on stickers and craft supplies for my planner so I'll be damn well ashamed of myself come April if I've given up. And I will tell myself off if this is the case.

7. Think about a plan

The top and tail of it is, I still don't have the foggiest what I want to do, career wise. I'm a bit dubious about putting this 'goal' in because finding a solution seems about as easy as catching a fart in the wind. I just don't know what I want do. So I'm challenging myself to seriously weigh up the options and consider what I want to do. Learn to teach? or try something completely different. I need to think about it rather than ignore it.

So they are my goals for this year. Some of them will be easier than others to achieve. I've tried to keep them less personal this year because in the past I've set goals to 'be more confident' or ' be a better person' and when it comes to review them it just depresses me. So I'm setting goals that I know I'll enjoy working towards. Except maybe no.7 but we'll see.

If you're still here, thank you for reading!
Leave me comments below about what you're hoping to achieve this year!

See you next time,

2016 Reading Challenge

Join me this year on a literary adventure.

Since I left university in 2014 I don't think I've read a book that I haven't had to read for work. None spring to mind anyway. So I've decided this year to attempt this reading challenge. If I can tick even 6 of these off by December I'll be very pleased with myself.

I'm going for 'a book published this year' as my first task and I'm already bending the rules slightly because the book I've chosen was first published in 2014. However, it's author, Andrew Michael Hurley, was on The One Show only last week discussing how his novel had recently become popular because it was the 2015 Costa Winner and it had been quoted as 'an amazing piece of fiction' by none other than Stephen King.

That should give away the genre for you.

The book I'm going to read is called The Loney and it's compared to Gothic literature from those such as Du Maurier and Walpole. So although it may have been published in 2014 it has only come to my attention a week ago so I figure it fits into this category.

Horror/Gothic/Supernatural/Psychological thrillers all appeal to me no matter what form they're in so I'm hoping that this will really encourage me to get back into reading.

I'll keep you updated with little reviews as I make my way through the list.

Let me know if you're going to have a go at the 2016 Reading Challenge and where you're going to start!

My 23rd Birthday!

I'm currently tracking my Erin Condren planner online and it's just arrived in Philadelphia. My estimated delivery date is tomorrow which seems pretty far fetched considering it's still in the US. Still, I'm so excited :D

Today, I thought I'd show you what I got for my 23rd birthday which was on Thursday, the 7th! I've had such a good week despite it being the first week back in work but I've celebrated and enjoyed myself so I'm very happy!

I got presents from my Mum, my close friends, friends from work and I also treated myself to a little something too because if you can't buy yourself a gift on your birthday, when can you?

My Mum got me a bottle of Roberto Cavalli, the Acqua scent which is gorgeous. It smells very similar to the original, strong and sultry, but something about it reminds me of summer. It's like a summery version of the original. I don't know about anyone else but once Christmas and my birthday are over I start pining for the summer, light mornings and warm evenings. Cannot wait. And this will definitely be my go-to scent throughout that season.

My friends from work bought me a bottle of coffee flavoured vodka. They all know I'm a coffee addict and next to that, vodka is my favourite drink so they combined to two and picked this! It's witchcraft!

It smells delicious but I have no idea what to mix it with. Or if to mix it at all?
Any suggestions I'll be glad to hear them in the comments.

I'd organised to go for an early tea with some girls from work and they were so sneaky because they'd managed to plan and bring a cake out with us and I never even noticed. After we'd all finished eating Melissa just whipped Little Miss Princess out of her bag. I was so stunned. They were so thoughtful and really made my birthday a special one :)

On Saturday night (last night, I'm currently writing this post with a headache courtesy of the night before) I went on a night out with my very close friends. We pretty much stayed in the Bierkeller all night because the music they play is right up our street. Before-hand though, we had a few drinks at my house and they gave me this stunning gift...

We all know I'm an eyeshadow junkie and need no encouragement but feast your eyes my friends, feast your eyes *face emoji with heart eyes*

It doesn't get much better than this, does it?

I cannot wait to get stuck in with this set, it gives me butterflies just looking at all the colours and choices. I love it!! Arghhh

And as if that wasn't enough, they also bought me this quilted velvet clutch from Topshop. It's so quirky and unusual, definitely something I'd have picked out for myself. I'm going to get so much use out of it because black and gold will match anything. They know me so well!

I'm very thankful for the gifts they picked - I feel very spoilt!

Finally, this was a little birthday gift to myself. I bought this with my planner in mind, I'm definitely looking forward to the creative, scrapbooking element more than actually planning because, the truth is, I don't really have a lot to plan. But the fun I'll get out of decorating each week and making a book which I can look back on is very exciting.

I considered buying a polaroid camera but realised I'd probably get fed up carrying it around all the time so this was the more sensible option for me because I take pictures on my phone all the time.

If you haven't heard of the Polaroid Zip before it's a little portable printer which you can send pictures to from your phone via an app. It then prints them out on photo paper which you can peel the backing off to make them into stickers if you wish.

I'll definitely make a review post for this once I've used it a few times!

And that concludes my birthday haul and celebrations... I've had such a good week and I'm so thankful to everyone who made my birthday special.

Let me know in the comments if you'd like reviews on anything mentioned.
And if you have any coffee vodka mixer suggestions, too!

Stuttgart, Germany | Photo Diary

The past few years I've considered visiting the 'real' Christmas markets, priced it up and ultimately left it too late to get a good deal. But this year, I was on the ball.

In September, my Mum, Sister and I decided to look for some Christmas markets to visit in Germany. We looked at lots of Groupon deals but the dates didn't suit us work wise so we went ahead and booked flights and a hotel ourselves. It cost us £100 each for flights to Stuttgart and 2 nights in a hotel.

We had such a good time, perusing the markets and enjoying the festive spirit. We learnt some new words like gluhwein and didn't get lost on the trains which was a winner, so today I wanted to share my photos with you before it becomes too unacceptable to discuss Christmas!

We arrived around 4.30 on Saturday evening and after getting a train to Stuttgart Stadmitte, finding our hotel and checking in, time was getting on. We went for something to eat and had a quick walk around the central markets which were in a huge market square and went back for some sleep. As you can see, it was incredibly busy on Saturday night.

... On Sunday...

... apparently Germans don't do a lot on Sundays. It was much quieter and far more enjoyable. There was still plenty of hustle and bustle but you could actually walk around without banging into people and take your time looking at the stalls.

The weather was so lovely, the sun was out but there was still a winter chill in the air. I'm so glad it didn't rain because we were outside for the whole of Sunday.

Here are some Hausschuhe a.k.a slippers. I have a running joke with one of my German friends about these so I found it amusing to see them in reality. Those Germans do love their house shoes.

None of my pictures do the markets any justice, I wish I could have gone to the top of a tall building to take a bird's eye view picture because they were literally everywhere, every street and corner we turned there were more decorations and market stalls. It was brilliant!

I definitely want to go again one year, I'd love to visit Munich next. One suggestion I would make is that you go during the week rather than a weekend because Saturdays are very busy and no other shops open on Sundays so if you find yourself all market-ed out there isn't a lot else to do.

Other than that, Germany is a beautiful place, I went to Berlin a few years ago and would love to go there again too.

Have you ever been to / considered going to Germany?
Let me know about your experiences in the comments!

Christmas 2015 | Collective Haul!

I have just spent the last 2 hours of my life deciding which 'washi tape' patterns I want to buy on eBay. Please send help. I don't even have my planner yet.

Moving on.

Today I thought I'd share with you what I got for Christmas this year! I'm writing this post a bit late this year but I suppose it's better late than never because I genuinely love reading these back. (Side Note, I just realised I now have five years in my blog archive...woah) I'm going to throw in what I bought in the Boxing Day sales and the few items I picked up at the airport in Stuttgart so get yourselves comfortable.

First up is this Olivia Burton Watch. I spied this on the John Lewis website back in about September and swiftly informed my sister to hint to my Mum that I'd been looking at them. I could have asked her myself but I don't usually request things for Christmas, I enjoy the surprise.

Anyway, receiving this was so timely as I accidentally left my old watch in Manchester airport on the way to Stuttgart. cry. Luckily it wasn't an expensive watch but this one is, not just in value but in sentiment, too as it was bought for me.

It comes in lots of different colour varieties and face sizes but I opted for the rose gold face and a black strap so that it will look clean forever.

I love it!

Next, I received two Pandora rings. I got the January birthstone ring (oh how I wish my birthstone was green) and a silver flower ring to pair with it. These two look so beautiful together and I'm really happy that I can finally jump on the Pandora ring band-wagon hahaha.

Now, we've got the mandatory new PJs prezzie. I had 2 pairs of PJs but I was wearing one pair whilst taking these pictures and I also got some new slippers which I was also wearing.

The ones in the picture consist of a t-shirt and 3/4 length leggings with the slogan 'Today I don't feel like doing anything at all' on it which very accurately describes my most common state-of-mind.

The other pair are grey with white stars, they feel very soft and fleecy and have full length arms and legs.

I really need to organise my PJ draw because I discovered the other day that the bottom of it was falling out. great. Old pairs must retire.

My sister bought me The Joker. I wish. Next best thing, a figurine of the joker.

I love him. He sits proudly next to my TV.

Each year my close friends and I do a secret santa swap. This year, I received a Dior makeup set consisting of the cutest little eyeshadow palette and their Iconic Overcurl mascara. I haven't used either of these yet but I will definitely let you know what I think. Has anyone else tried them?

My secret santa also bought me a bauble from Harrods. When I went to London in October I really wanted to buy one for myself but the shop was shut unfortunately. So my friend bought me one to match my tree when she went back to London later on in the year. I forgot to take a picture of it before I took my decorations down but it's a beautiful dark grey with iridescent beads and sparkles covering the top if it. It's definitely something I'd have picked for myself. She knows me well!

That pretty much rounds up what I received for Christmas. I was also given some money which I spent on Boxing Day and you'll see that shortly. But I do want to quickly show you what I bought in Stuttgart airport.

We didn't spend as many euros as we thought in Germany so my Mum and I treated ourselves on the way back to a bottle of perfume each. She bought Roberto Cavalli Paradisio which is beautiful and I picked up Marc Jacobs Violet which is only available in airports. I love the scent but I would be lying if I said the packaging was't the main reason I bought it. The bottle is so stunning.

I also picked up a set of 10 mini-sized Clinique lip glosses. I don't know...I seem to be going through a lip gloss phase and these really appealed.

On Boxing Day, I went to the Trafford Centre with my friends. I had my reservations, I must say, I feared that we were going to be like sardines in a tin but it really wasn't too bad. I found lots of deals, spent my Christmas money and my Boots points. It was a good day!

We went to Boots first and most of the gift shelves had been ransacked already, there wasn't much left but I did find some makeup bits.

My Boots points, which I save throughout the year, went on a new 150ml Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. Mine ran out a few months ago and I missed it dearly so I bought this set for £20. Additionally, I picked up the No.7 eyeliner set for £18 which seems quite pricy but for 5 eyeliners and a mascara it works out at £3 per item and I really want to experiment with different coloured eyeliners so I thought this was a good deal.

Then, I saw this Bare Minerals palette called The Regal Wardrobe. I haven't tried a great deal from this brand so I thought it would be a nice chance to try a few different products. This was reduced to £23 and I can confirm that the powder is one of the nicest I've ever tried. Pigmented, buttery, soft and blendable. It's gorgeous.

I bought two pairs of shoes. One for work from Dorothy Perkins. These were in the sale for £16 which is the usual kinda price I'd pay for work shoes. They're black suede with a good, thick sole which is a necessity because I unintentionally ruin rubber sole shoes very quickly. I must be heavy footed.

Then I found these gems in River Island. I've been wanting a pair of black going-out boots for a long time and these are exactly what I've been looking for. They were still £30 but considering I saw some very similar for £70 I don't think I did too bad. These will go with my numerous pairs of leather pants perfectly.

Whilst we're on the subject of black leather pants, I picked up a few bits from H&M. These wet-look pants were £15 and I thought they'd go well with the black boots you can see above and these 3 blouses:

I was dubious about the jumper because the festive season is coming to an end but I settled because it's more wintery than Christmassy and it was only £7.

Finally, I impulse-bought a coat from New Look. My friend tried on this coat and a burgundy coloured one and settled for the burgundy. However, I really enjoyed the burnt-orange/auburn colour of this so I bought it for myself. I have a ginger coat and I love it. £26 well-spent IMO.

I have been altogether spoilt over the festive season. I've had beautiful gifts bought for me and treated myself generously. It's gotta be done. I'm so grateful for everything I have and I can't wait to start getting use out of everything.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm sad that everything is back to normal on Monday and I'm back as work but I suppose I have to earn back some of what I've spent!

Stay tuned for my Stuttgart photo diary which will be up soon, my 2016 goals and lots of crafty hauls. I've been going crazy for stationary in anticipation of my Erin Condren Planner arriving. I think I'm going to start a weekly planning series, let me know what you think about that in the comments! And if you know of any good planning blogs!

If you're still with me you are awesome, thank you!

See you next time,
Leanne x
