Hello Everyone!
I have a lipstick review for you today! Remember when I went on a mad one in Boots and purchased a load of things I really didn't need? No? You can see the haul HERE. I picked up a few Sleek products which so far I've seen really loving but this True Colour Lipstick in 'Smother' has to be my favourite item that I own from the brand.
It quickly became my favourite lip product to use throughout the month of December. You can achieve a really dark, almost black, colour with this or a light purple/plum colour. I love the diversity!
The texture of this lipstick is creamy and comfortable to wear, it's a sheen finish which makes a nice change for me as I usually lean towards matte lip products for better longevity and none-stickness. However, I think Smother does well with a little shine to make it look less dull and miserable.
On the package it says 'a highly pigmented, non-drying, conditioning sheen lipstick that helps to keep lips soft and supple. Contains vitamin E which helps to hydrate and protect the lips from free radicals that cause premature ageing.'
There are some pretty bold claims there. Some of which I definitely agree with, such as that it is very highly pigmented, you hardly have to touch the product and it will be full colour. It's very impressive. I also agree that it is non-drying, throughout the day it stays shiny and bright without being even the tiniest bit sticky. It stays put all day and I have to say that even when you're eating and drinking, it barely moves. It does stain your lips a little but the pigmentation and actual product stay in place for a very long time.
As far as the conditioning and stoping your lips prematurely ageing claims, I think that's pretty brave. It is hydrating but it doesn't repair your lips either. I think if you're a big wearer of matte lip products you'll see the difference. Personally, I just think my lips feel less dry after wearing this because of it's finish. Matte products dry out your lips whereas this doesn't.
Worn everyday for a long time I have no doubt that the vitamin E content will have some effect on your lips but for every-now-and-then wear, you probably won't see the benefit.
Don't let that put you off though, this is a really lovely product and considering it's price and performance I would definitely purchase more.
The way which I apply the product to get this plum/purple colour is simple, I just dab the product around my lips, not fully covering them then mix it together with my lips. I wouldn't recommend mixing it with your finger because it will stain. A lip brush would be best probably. If you dive right in and sweep this across your lips, you're going to get a very dark, full colour look. Perfect if that's what you're aiming for but it doesn't have a great effect on my pale skin tone!
I would very highly recommend this lipstick! I wasn't sure what to expect with this but I was plesently surprised and I will definitely buy more shades in the future!
Thanks for reading,
Leanne x
