No Heat Curls

I have discovered the queen of hair styles on YouTube. If you're feeling a little uninspired or downright bored with your hair I really would suggest that you check out MakeupWearablesHairstyles' channel out. She makes fantastic videos showing you how to create really easy and quick hairstyles and I just love it at the moment! I came across that channel when I was YouTubing heatless curl ideas which is what today's post is going to be showing you. I actually used this video for these scarf curls but I just wanted to rave about the other channel for a second.

Anyway, moving on. I gave this method of heatless curls a go, dangerously, when I knew I had to go out the next day and I absolutely love the way it turned out. You have to conspicuously walk around your house all evening/morning looking a little mental with a scarf wrapped around your head but it's totally worth it when you take them out.

Your first task is to wash or dampen your hair. If you wash it I'd recommend that you let it air dry for a while until it's damp rather than wet through or there's a chance your hair won't be completely dry in the morning. I even had to finish mine off with the hair dryer in the morning because my hair is so thick and argumentative. Gah.

It's actually quite a simple method to follow although it does look quite technical. First you have to tie a scarf around your head. Put the knot as far down as you can so it's easier to sleep on (honestly it's comfier than it looks). I used a silky-feeling scarf to avoid frizz.. my hair frizzes at any opportunity. Then split your hair into two sections.

Next, starting from the front, take a small section of hair and wrap it over and under the scarf. Once you've wrapped the first section around, add an equally sized section to the same bit of hair and wrap it around again. Just keep adding sections until you've wrapped the whole half of your hair around.

If you have long hair you might run out of scarf quickly but I found that just squashing the spirals together so I could fit all my hair around worked okay.

Use plenty of little slides to pin the ends of your hair to your head then repeat on the other side :)

I have to say I slept surprisingly well considering it was boiling hot and my hair was wrapped around a scarf on my head. The next morning it was still reasonably in tact, too.

I left it until I was just about to leave the house before I took it out. I also had to put the hairdryer on it for a few minutes just to fully dry it. You won't get the same spiral curls if it's not completely dry. And they'll fall out quicker.

I love the way they look from the front... so curly!

So ultimately through using this method I saved myself the whole evening I usually spend washing, drying, styling my hair. I saved my hair from the heat damage and I saved the electricity. I feel so proud ;)

I'll definitely be giving this another go in the future... I was thinking about using a thicker scarf to make looser curls but I don't think I'd want to sleep on that.

Let me know if you've tried this curling method and what you think!
Also, if you have any other tips and tricks for producing heatless curls... write them in the comments, I'm all ears :)

Thanks for reading everyone,
See you next time,

Life Update:
  • I have some exciting posts lined up for you all (when I get my butt in gear and write them). First is a vlog from my Liverpool trip. I also have a haul coming up (in YouTube form) from that same trip.
  • I have a DIY bedroom bits-and-bobs post to come when everything arrives that I've bought for it. (If you follow me on Twitter you'll have seen a sneak peek (@MystNeonLights if you're interested)).
  •  I also have a different haul from a shopping trip a few days ago in normal written form so if you don't like to watch videos then there's a bit of normality too. I do have a SheInside post in my drafts which I haven't written yet but I ordered the clothes so long ago that I'm struggling to write the post...let me know if you'd like to see it!
  • There are only 7 days left to enter my GIVEAWAY so head over to that post if you haven't entered yet. What have you got to lose?
  • So we know who A is! #PLL I won't spoil it for anyone but I was slightly miffed. I thought it would be a main character and everything would make sense and it would all be awesome... but it was just like 'oh'.
  • Now I'm off to continue with my annual Summer Harry Potter marathon!

  1. These look so good, the curls are amazing! I'm useless at curling my hair with thongs anyway so perhaps I should try this out.
