Lipsticks For Blondes!

Hello everyone!

I have something a little different for you today. I was watching a video on YouTube the other day and someone was talking about a lipstick which looked really good with their hair colouring. That comment initially inspired me to write this post. I thought it would be interesting and maybe even useful to demonstrate how different coloured lipsticks look with blonde hair and, in my case, a pretty pale complexion.

This might be helpful for those just starting out in makeup who want to see how certain things look before buying some lipsticks. I also just thought it would be interesting for myself to see how particular shades complement my complexion and how some, well, really don't.

I've tried to take something from each main shade that I own. The colours I chose are: nude, light pink, medium pink, coral, hot pink, red, orange, berry and purple. Obviously there are variations within each shade but I tried to pick the most obvious one within my collection... if that makes sense.

Let's begin!

I'm not one for nudes usually.. as I'm so pale I fear that it kinda looks like I have no lips at all. But the one I picked is by MUA and it's the shade 3. It's more of a peachy nude than a beige nude and I surprisingly like it. The lipstick itself is awful and patchy but I may venture to by a soft peach from a better brand in the future.

The next shade is my light pink offering. This is a new purchase of mine and probably my favourite lipstick at the moment. It is a Revlon Super Lustrous in the shade Pink Pout. I actually have a review on this which you can see HERE. Having the shade lined up next to a lot of pinks really showed me how much mauve is in this shade. I absolutely love it and I think it especially complements blonde hair.

This was the only lipstick I could find within my collection that I could call medium pink. It's a colour by MaxFactor and it's called English Rose. I really like the colour of this lipstick, it's very pigmented but it's kind of muted. Although I think it looks good with blonde hair I'm really not a fan of the finish this lipstick has, it's far too shiny for me.

Another lipstick from MaxFactor is Bewitching Coral. I really really enjoy coral lipsticks or anything coral coloured to be honest as long as it's more on the pink coral end of the spectrum, not the orange. I very almost used the Revlon Matte Balm in Unapologetic for this colour however I've shown that a lot on this blog and I think this is just a little more true coral than the Revlon one.

HOT PINK! This is my absolute favourite of all the lipsticks I'm showing you in this post. It's the Topshop lipstick called All About Me. It's matte, it's opaque, it's long lasting, it makes my teeth look whiter, I love it. And it looks great with blond hair.

The next category is red. I'm not a red lipstick wearer typically which my friends find strange as red is supposed to match blonde really well. I don't know what it is but red really doesn't do anything for me. This is a Rimmel lipstick in the shade Red Fever and in my opinion this is a true letter box red shade.

I don't know whether it's because I'm not used to seeing red on my face or because my blonde hair's more on the golden spectrum of blonde but I just don't like it. I think this would suite a more white/platinum blonde than myself. I just don't know. Let me know what you think in the comments!

My absolute least favourite shade of lipstick is orange. It really does not do me any favours. This is the Revlon Lip Butter in Tuti Fruti and although the colour is pretty opaque and nice quality it's just not my shade. I also have a NARS lip pencil in Red Square which I thought was red but when I got it home it's more burnt orange. Quite upsetting that I hardly ever wear it because I don't like orange and it cost a lot of money. Could have sworn it was red in the shop!

The berry shade I chose was one of my ultimate faves throughout last winter and it's a Revlon Lip Butter in the shade Raspberry Pie. I think this is one of the deeper shades that blondes can really get away with without looking involuntarily goth. It's a lovely winder shade, very complementing and I'll probably be breaking it out again once September comes along.

Last but not least is purple. This is the Sleek lipstick in Smother which you may have seen previously in THIS post. I wore it a lot throughout December/January just gone but not to the intensity you see in this picture. I dotted it about my lips and blended it with a Maybelline Baby Lips to sheer it out which looked lovely but you can see above that this shade really isn't messing about.

So that's everything, I hope I covered the spectrum of lipsticks. Now I'm writing this I keep thinking of other categories like Barbie Pink or Brown etc. but I think I have covered the main shades.

Quick run-down of lipsticks used:
MUA Shade 3
Revlon Super Lustrous Pink Pout
MaxFactor English Rose
MaxFactor Bewitching Coral
Topshop Lipstick All About Me
Rimmel Red Fever
Revlon Lip Butter Tuti Fruti
Revlon Lip Butter Raspberry Pie
Sleek Smother

Which shade is your favourite?

I hope this was fun to read, interesting or helpful!

Thoughts of the day!
  • Hope you weren't over loaded with pictures of my face throughout this post. I was going to just crop around the colours but then I realised you wouldn't be able to see the hair...
  • I have had to smother my lips with lip balm after applying and removing all them lip products.
  • Just had a ham, cheese and piccalilli sandwich for my dinner. It was lovely!
  • My neighbour bought me a cute 'teacher' keyring to celebrate my new job as a teacher assistant. It's got flowers and a little watering can on it, it's adorable.
  • I need to pick up my Debenhams order from Manchester soon. I bought a MAC lipstick when they had £5 off and did the click and collect to not pay postage. Only to realise my mum has a Debenhams Gold Card with free delivery :( I could have had it by now!
  • Still using my OGGI water bottle and I'm refilling it a few times a day so my body is definitely  getting more fluid than it's used to (that's not coffee). I noticed I've been having fewer headaches so that's a bonus. I'll write a review of the bottle soon!
